Echoes of Aincrad Summons Quest Guide: Walkthrough and Key Objectives
In Echoes of Aincrad, Summons is the sixth major storyline quest, arriving right after you finish The Violet Fencer II and create your own character. The mission effectively ushers you into the “official release” version of Sword Art Online, but the opening is intentionally strange: three summoners insist that the world has been torn apart, and that it’s your job to restore it.
The stakes are made clear immediately. You can’t return to your home world until this one is reshaped into its original state. If you need help clearing Summons, this walkthrough covers how to reach the Town of Beginnings and where your custom character fits into what happens next.

Summons Walkthrough
After the three summoners finish their dialogue, you’re free to roam the temple in front of you. Your immediate objective is to reach the Town of Beginnings. Along the route, you can detour into a couple of side areas to look for treasure chests. One of those options involves destroying a rock barrier using a Bomb Stone or Bomb Mine—but you won’t have access to that approach at this stage.
Temple exploration also introduces new spider enemies that continue the series trend from the prior quest. Previously you fought Thicket Spiders and Coiling Threadmakers; now you’ll encounter two fresh variants. The first is the Fire Cloud enemy.
- Unknown, possibly none
The second spider you meet early in Summons is the Woodland Spider. It has a yellow body and noticeably more health than a Thicket Spider. Unlike some other variants, it doesn’t tunnel through the ground, but it does bring a distinctive attack pattern—one that’s referenced in the monster table from earlier.
- Iron Chunk
Defeat the Swarm of Spiders
When you reach the sealed yellow wall, pass through it and you’ll be tasked with fighting off a group of spiders. Even though you won’t have the consumables you used during the closed beta, you still have your two Healing Crystals. There’s also a practical carryover: you’ll be using whichever weapon type you equipped back in the beta.
After you clear out a chunk of the spider pack, help arrives in the form of Iori. Once the area is secure, a short cutscene plays showing you and Iori reuniting. The scene also brings messages from friends encouraging you to convene inside the Town of Beginnings.
Head to the Town of Beginnings
Once the cutscene ends, keep moving through the temple until you reach the outside. Before you hit the next Safe Area, you should find at least one treasure chest just outside the temple. From there, take the main roads east, then continue south to reach the Town of Beginnings.
As you close in, the environment makes it obvious you’re near the destination. You’ll see the familiar blue beam rising into the sky to mark the warp terminal. The towering town walls are another strong indicator that you’re approaching the right place. When you reach the town gate, go inside and activate the warp terminal there. Doing so completes the Summons quest and immediately sets up a follow-up sequence that lasts around 17 minutes.
Start the 17-Minute Cutscene
Inside the Town of Beginnings, advancing forward will trigger the 17-minute cutscene referenced earlier. If you want a quick sense of what to expect, there’s a spoiler box planned for that moment.
During the cutscene, you’ll hit a single interaction requirement. Open your main menu and check your pouch for the Hand Mirror item. Use the Hand Mirror to push the story ahead, allowing you to finally see your custom character. That then leads into another major reveal labeled “Tap to Reveal.”
Before the cutscene and the big reveal fully wrap up, your party begins discussing what to do next. Wyzeman recommends finishing quests, tracking down stronger weapons, and heading to Horunka. That planning sets up the next quest: Beaten to the Punch.
