Dragon Ball: Ranking the 8 Most Powerful Non-Saiyans in Universe 7
For years, Dragon Ball has treated the Saiyans as the franchise’s default “power ceiling.” Even if you zoom out to Universe 7, four of the five strongest living defenders are Saiyans—an outcome that says more about their innate potential than it does about any single technique or training arc. Still, the series has never been limited to one bloodline. In fact, some of the most dangerous fighters in the multiverse—non-Saiyans, no less—have matched the main cast in raw output, or even eclipsed them under specific conditions.
With Dragon Ball Super shifting the whole strength scale, “strongest” now often depends on transformations, divine-tier rules, and power sources that weren’t part of the earlier era. Below is a look at the strongest non-Saiyan characters, focusing on those who can rival Goku, Vegeta, Gohan, and Broly—and in a few cases, go beyond them.
8 Hit is Universe 6’s most powerful assassin
Race: Unknown
Even though Kefla became Universe 6’s standout advantage in the Tournament of Power, Hit is the character who stands out as the strongest non-fused fighter in that universe. His reputation comes from a rarely matched skill: stopping time and then acting through it as if he’s working inside the pause itself. In Universe 6, the assassin’s brand is consistency—he rarely refuses a contract, and when he accepts, he finishes the job.
During the Universe 6 and Tournament of Power storylines, Hit demonstrated how overwhelming Time Stop can be. The technique traps opponents in a temporal “cell,” preventing them from moving while he keeps control of the fight. In terms of tiering, he’s even described as stronger than Goku and Vegeta while they’re in Super Saiyan Blue. That’s why Goku couldn’t rely on the form alone—he layered Kaioken on top of it to secure the win.
7 Toppo was the first to realize a Destroyer’s power
- Toppo’s God of Destruction form.
In the modern era, Vegeta’s name is tightly linked to the Gods of Destruction because of Ultra Ego, but the first fighter to reach that level in the Tournament of Power era was Toppo. He stepped into the role of Universe 11’s next God of Destruction after earning his place during the tournament.
Toppo’s new form lets him wield Destroyer Energy and Hakai. With those tools, he can erase opponents who are weaker than him outright. Even if he was still inexperienced—enough to get knocked out later by Vegeta—his showing proved a key point: a non-Saiyan can absolutely occupy Destroyer-tier space when the power source is there and the fundamentals catch up.
6 Jiren was the greatest challenge in the Tournament of Power
No one in the Tournament of Power was a bigger wall for the heroes than Jiren. His threat came from two things: enormous natural strength and near-flawless Ki management. For a stretch, he kept up with Mastered Ultra Instinct Goku, but he also outlasted that “final form” state. The reason wasn’t that Goku lacked power—it was that Jiren controlled his energy better for longer, turning stamina into a weapon.
Jiren’s species is unknown. Unlike the Saiyans, the story strongly suggests he doesn’t rely on a special biological gimmick or signature ability. Instead, his ceiling appears to be the result of discipline and grind—pure effort building into an almost unfair level. The last time he appeared, he lost at the end of the Tournament of Power, but if he returns, the expectation is simple: he’ll be stronger than before.
5 Moro’s was the series’ most dangerous villain
Moro took center stage in the Galactic Prisoner Patrol arc, and the arc’s events made his danger feel immediate. Battles against powerful opponents existed before, but Moro’s threat came with a particular kind of horror. His strength was one issue, but his ability to drain planets of life was what made him genuinely terrifying to witness.
Energy absorption is a familiar idea in Dragon Ball, yet Moro’s version operates on a scale the series hadn’t really matched. Instead of taking from individual fighters, he can strip entire planets of vitality to grow stronger. That process eventually reaches a point where even Mastered Ultra Instinct Goku can’t stop him in time. The solution becomes a multi-step takedown: Vegeta uses a reversal of Forced Spirit Fission to pull in energy from others, and together they bring the monster down for good.
Vegeta is among the strongest Saiyans in Dragon Ball today, but there’s one Saiyan he can never surpass or defeat—no matter what.
4 Granolah eventually turned into a heroic figure
Race: Cerealian
- Granolah ki attacks
Granolah came from the Cerealian race, which was wiped out by the Saiyans decades earlier. That genocide shaped his entire life: revenge was the only direction he had. He finally got the opening he needed when he used the Cerealian Dragon Balls to make a wish that would make him the strongest being in the universe.
That wish delivered—along with a brutal tradeoff. Becoming the top fighter cost him his remaining lifespan. As the strongest, Granolah dismantled Goku’s Mastered Ultra Instinct with ease and matched Ultra Ego Vegeta in direct exchanges. In the end, he aligned with the heroes to take down Gas, ultimately securing a place among Universe 7’s most formidable warriors.
3 Gas made the same powerful wish as Granolah
Race: Heeter
Gas started as a normal combatant, but when he made the same kind of wish as Granolah using the Cerealian Dragon Balls, his power skyrocketed to astronomical levels. Because his wish came after Granolah’s, he ended up surpassing him. The results were so extreme that Goku, Vegeta, and Granolah together still had to work to bring him down.
Even that wasn’t the full story. Gas’s strength continued to climb toward the end of the arc, and while the heroes came close, his weakened, aged condition was still technically stronger than the Saiyans and Granolah. The reason is that Gas’s body had to keep draining his life force to remain the strongest, and that requirement eventually caught up with him. His form deteriorated—withered, then turned to dust.
The most powerful versions of Trunks in the Dragon Ball multiverse are “God Tier” fighters, with the potential to surpass even Goku and Vegeta someday.
2 Piccolo has finally risen to the level of the Saiyans
Race: Namekian
One of the most consistent fan criticisms of Dragon Ball overall has been how little attention certain side characters receive—Piccolo being the biggest example. He’s one of the franchise’s most beloved figures, yet for a long time he didn’t get the same spotlight as the Saiyan-centered leads. That imbalance was addressed in the Super Hero arc, where Piccolo was finally pushed up into the same strength tier as the main Saiyans.
In his Orange Piccolo form, his power reaches unprecedented heights. He can now square off against major threats like Cell Max. In the current continuity, both Toyotaro and the late Akira Toriyama have confirmed that the five main heroes are operating at the same overall strength level—an intentional decision that puts Piccolo back at the center of the story rather than relegating him to the sidelines.
1 Black Frieza is the strongest mortal in the multiverse
Race: Frost Demon
- Black Frieza vs Beerus
- Black Frieza from Dragon Ball
Frieza has always been portrayed as the most extreme “potential” case in the series. He was even shown reaching Super Saiyan Blue-level power after only four months of training. Black Frieza is what you get when that kind of raw ceiling is paired with a full decade of conditioning in a Hyperbolic Time Chamber.
The transformation is so overwhelming that Frieza can kill Gas and knock Goku and Vegeta out while they’re in their strongest divine transformations—using a single punch. If the Dragon Ball Super manga ever returns, it would be fascinating to see how the heroes respond to an opponent that breaks the usual matchup logic.
Dragon Ball can be streamed on Crunchyroll.
