Crimson Desert: Hernand Region Treasure Chest Locations (46 Total) Guide
Crimson Desert’s Hernand Region is packed with Treasure Chests—46 in total, spanning the Hernand Region and the domain of Calphade. Below is a guide-style walkthrough for each chest mentioned in the order it appears, including where to find it and what you’ll get.
Checklists
There are 46 currently known Treasure Chests throughout the Hernand Region in Crimson Desert (including the domain of Calphade). This guide details the location and reward for each one.
Hernand Sewers Treasure Chest
- Reward: Grace Plate Helm, 1.50 Silver
You can find this chest almost right after starting Chapter 1 as part of the main questline. After you give a coin to a beggar, you’ll hear a woman calling for help from a sewer below.
Go through the underground passage until the area opens into a room with alcoves on both sides and small pits. Walk the path above the left pit; at the far end, you’ll spot your first Treasure Chest with a unique helmet inside (it has no bonus attributes). You can still revisit this spot after finishing the main story.
Hernand Castle Treasure Chest
- Reward: Faded Abyss Artifact
Another early chest sits in Hernand Castle (don’t confuse it with the musical strongbox puzzle on the top floor). It’s available during Chapter 1 as part of the Mystical Key Quest, when you’re asked to enter an alchemist’s chambers in the castle.
Enter Hernand Castle and go up the first set of stairs into the main hall that leads toward the Marquis’ chambers. Instead of going that way, inspect the first door on the left. You can open it using the special key the beggar provides. Inside the alchemist’s room, the Treasure Chest is in front of a desk, with the Abyss gateway visible just to the left.
Lioncrest Manor Treasure Chest 1
- Reward: Rhonid Large Shield, Palmar Pill
Located in Lioncrest Manor—a sprawling area northwest of Hernand City on a small hill—this is one of three Treasure Chests in the location. Some chests are behind locked doors, so bringing keys is a good idea. Since the main entrances are guarded, enter through upper-floor windows.
Once you’re inside, go to the second floor and head to the locked door in the northern corner (there’s also a key on a nearby table you can steal). Step into the room where you’ll find a Treasure Chest containing a Rhonid Large Shield. It offers no extra enhancements, but it does beat average defense.
Lioncrest Manor Treasure Chest 2
- Reward: Brass Warden’s Plate Gloves
From there, go down to the first-floor hallway and take the first door on the right. Inside, you’ll reach a Treasure Chest with Brass Warden’s Plate Gloves. These gloves already include two embedded bonus stats: an Abyss Gear that grants Level 1 Fire Resistance, and another that adds a 10% chance to log additional lumber.
Lioncrest Manor Treasure Chest 3
- Reward: Hwando, Refined Palmar Pill
Finally, leave the main building and head north for a smaller stone structure with a blue roof. It also has a second-floor window you can slip through. There’s just one attic storage area here, and it holds the third and final Treasure Chest.
Loot it to obtain the two-handed Hwando sword. The sword already has three embedded Abyss Gears: Critical Rate 1, Stamina Siphon 1, and Attack 1.
Goddess of Balance Treasure Chest
- Reward: Legionary’s Gladius
This chest is fairly close to Hernand Town and can be picked up early as soon as you arrive. To get there, head back north from Hernand Castle to the large bridge you crossed when you started Chapter 1. Then follow the cliff tops at the base of the Three Saints’ Falls.
On the right side, find a Goddess of Balance statue with a small puzzle tied to it:
Light both candles the statue is holding. A nearby gate will open, revealing a Treasure Chest. Open it to receive the Legionary’s Gladius. It has no bonus attributes, but it does have a distinct look.
Karin Quarry Treasure Chest 1
- Reward: Hidden Treasure Map Piece 6
Karin Quarry has two Treasure Chests. This one is found in the large stone quarry north of Hernand Castle beyond Rocca’s Hill, which is initially controlled by Bleed Bandits.
This chest is protected by a miniboss: Marni’s Excavator. Defeat the robot located on the far northwestern side of the quarry in a secluded area. After you win, check the southwest side of the enclosed arena for wooden boards inside a small alcove, break them, and you’ll find the chest with the treasure map piece beyond.
Karin Quarry Treasure Chest 2
- Reward: Rabbit Leather Mask
To reveal this treasure, you must fully liberate the Quarry from Bleed Bandit control as part of the House Roberts Questline. After that, during Sealed in Stone, you’ll be tasked with using crane controls to lift a giant block out of the ground.
The same method works in the southeast segment of the central quarry area, just beneath the bigger crane controls. Move the smaller block out of the hole in the middle, and the Treasure Chest will be inside. The Rabbit Leather Mask is more cosmetic than protective, but it does include an innate bonus that increases the Trust people gain with you.
House of Healing Treasure Chest
- Reward: Blackwing Leather Boots
Find a Treasure Chest in St. Halssius’s House of Healing on the far side of Hernand, where you’ll break Yann out during the Main Quest. This infiltration requires either sneaking, using a disguise, or having documentation. The large complex is reached by taking the road east of the Nas River from Hernand.
Once inside the grounds, head toward the large chapel-like building with a belltower. Climb to the top of the tower to locate a floor panel. Crouch and use your Force Palm on the ground to reveal a rotating floor that drops you down to the Treasure Chest. Inside are the Blackwing Leather Boots, which already contain several Abyss Gears that improve movement speed and stamina regeneration.
Pororin Village Treasure Chest
- Reward: Blackwing Leather Cloak, Palmar Pill
This is the only Treasure Chest inside the hidden Shai Village of Pororin, located south of the Sanctum of Temperance below the Hernand Heights in the southeast area. Watch out: Pororin Forest is patrolled by Shai Protectors who automatically knock you out if you get too close. The good news is that after being knocked out three times, you can start a quest to gain access to the village.
After you’re allowed in, go to the main Pororin Village on the east side. Look for a modest farmland area on the west side of the village (near a cluster of Shai who can teach you Double Jump). Head north from there to a long open shed full of hay and crates. Walk around to the back to find wooden boards you can break open to access the Blackwing Leather Cloak.
Sanctum of Penitence Treasure Chest
- Reward: Blackwing Leather Gloves
Find this Treasure Chest at the Sanctum of Penitence, located on a high plateau overlooking the southeastern border of Hernand and Demeniss. It’s south of Hernand’s Southern Quarry and far east of Pororin Village. Note that after Chapter 5, the Sanctum becomes infested with Cult of Atumbra.
When you arrive, go to the north side where the reactor sits. Look south toward the closest part of the stone ruins that includes a raised platform. On the far side, you’ll see two open sarcophagi. Toward the opposite end of the ruined room, locate a section of floor that breaks away—this reveals a chamber beneath containing the Blackwing Leather Gloves, already infused with Health Regen and Lightning Resistance.
Bloodhum House Treasure Chest
- Reward: Duskfang Leather Cloak
While it isn’t technically inside the Bloodhum House, this Treasure Chest is in an unmarked crevice on the southeastern cliffside of the Hernand Highlands. It’s southwest of the Goldleaf Guildhouse at the edge of Pororin Forest, and further west than the Sanctum of Temperance.
To reach the chest, follow the path west of Bloodhum House, where bandits will ambush you. Continue along the cliffside to the north until you spot a dark open crevice at the base of the cliffs. Jump down to destroy a wooden board, which reveals a tight passage leading to a skeleton and the chest containing the Duskfang Leather Cloak.
Whispering Grotto Treasure Chest
- Reward: Duskfang Leather Armor, Refined Palmar Pill
You can discover a Treasure Chest hidden in a waterfall cave called the Whispering Grotto on the southern part of Hernand, past the Highlands. It sits just below the church of Senia, which is built on a high isolated clifftop north of Fort Hellwood and the Mountain of Frozen Souls.
When you face the gorge separating Senia from the other plateaus, check near the bottom for a broken lift. You should be able to find a route south along cliff ledges lined with small piles of stones, guiding you toward a small waterfall—an indicator that there’s a cave behind it. Enter using the Stab technique at the correct angle (RB/R1 + Y/Triangle).
Inside, you’ll find a small treasure-filled cave containing a Refined Palmar Pill and the Duskfang Leather Armor. This armor is already infused with extra healing from food, Climb Speed, and Fire Resistance.
Castlewood Ruins Treasure Chest 1
- Reward: Duskfang Leather Gloves
This is one of two Treasure Chests in the Castlewood Ruins. The ruins sit on a hill south of Pororin Village, above a small lake to the west, and far east of the lower Hernand Highlands, alongside Glenbright Manor.
Since the ruins are spread out, start by focusing on the northern edge of the stone castle ruins—slightly south of the map icon—where the area has become overrun with shrubs and bushes. There’s a large sealed gate a little farther south (but not too far).
At first, it may look like there’s nothing to open the gate. Look to the right instead: you’ll see a tangle of roots that can be burned away to reveal a stone brazier. Light the brazier to unlock the route to the Duskfang Leather Gloves. Then search even farther south to find another ruin section holding the Sunset Reed Cloth Cloak.
Mudridge Cabin Treasure Chest
- Reward: Goblin King’s Treasure Dagger
This chest is hidden in the foundations of one of the two wooden structures that make up the Mudridge Cabin Location. Mudridge Cabin is south of the Unicorn Cliff and Goldleaf Guildhouse, just east of the Sanctum of Temperance, and found in a large bog.
Be careful approaching the area. It’s contested by a group of easy bandits, and the location is also a poison bog that drains your health if you wade through it. Use your Force Palm jump and glide down to the bottom of the southern structure. From there, you can spot the Treasure Chest through wooden boards.
To the left, jump into an alcove and crouch-walk into the large wooden panel. Push it so it rotates, opening access to the chest. Inside is the Goblin King’s Treasure Dagger, which is imbued with a chance to gain extra pelts when skinning.
Reachwood Ruins Treasure Chest
- Reward: Isilon Leather Boots, Palmar Pill
This Treasure Chest is hidden in ruins along the edge of the hidden Shai Village of Pororin, located south of the Sanctum of Temperance below the Hernand Heights to the southeast. Again, be warned: Pororin Forest is patrolled by Shai Protectors who automatically knock you out if you get too close—even near the ruins around the village. After being knocked out three times, you can take a quest to gain access to the village and surrounding areas.
Once you’ve entered an alliance with Pororin, look for ruins just west of Petalton Workshop. Check the south sides of the ruins past a large broken tower. Here you’ll find a steel gate blocking a Treasure Chest. To open it, light the stone lantern next to the gate, and you’ll obtain the Isilon Leather Boots. These boots are imbued with Ice Resistance and Health Regen.
Firefly Haven Cave Treasure Chest
- Reward: Boss Bear Hat, Refined Palmar Pill
This chest is one of many hidden behind a waterfall. It’s located in Firefly Haven Cave on Hernand’s eastern borders, in a ravine just below St. Halssius’s House of Healing. You can reach it by following the Nas River east through Hernand until it becomes the lower Nas River.
Follow the river until you spot a small waterfall, then look halfway up the twin falls for a small right-side area with a stack of rocks by a fallen log—this marks a secret entrance just past the falls. Enter using the Stab technique at the correct angle (RB/R1 + Y/Triangle).
Inside is a compact cave filled with treasures, including the Boss Bear Hat. It provides a passive bonus that lets you move among bears undetected.
Cloudmist Cave Treasure Chest
- Reward: Dark Ringleader’s Leather Gloves, Palmar Pill
This is another waterfall-hidden chest, located in Cloudmist Cave. It’s easy to reach by following the lower western Nas River below Hernand Town toward the Hernand Highlands, then continuing upstream above the Inkswork Bindery toward the falls.
As you travel, find a short waterfall near the main river mouth and a small wooden bridge (don’t confuse it with a different covered bridge further north over a similar river). Climb up to spot a stack of rocks—this indicates a secret entrance just past the falls. Use the Stab technique at the correct angle (RB/R1 + Y/Triangle) to enter.
Inside, you’ll find a small cave full of treasures, including a Refined Palmar Pill and the Dark Ringleader’s Leather Gloves. The gloves come with several Abyss Gear bonuses, including increased Armor and Ice Resistance.
Shadowheart Grotto Treasure Chest
- Reward: Dark Ringleader’s Cloth Helm
This waterfall-hidden chest is in a cave called Shadowheart Grotto. You can reach it by following the lower western Nas River below Hernand Town toward the Hernand Highlands, then following a river upstream above the Inkswork Bindery toward the falls. You’ll pass Cloudmist Cave on the way; it contains another part of the Dark Ringleader armor set.
Continue upstream past Phoniel Ranch and Witch’s House until the river forks into two separate waterfalls. Take the southern route (the left one). At the base of the falls, look for a stack of rocks—this signals a secret entrance just past the waterfall. Enter with the Stab technique at the correct angle (RB/R1 + Y/Triangle).
Inside, you’ll find a small cave of treasures including a Refined Palmar Pill and the Dark Ringleader’s Cloth Helm. This “poofy hat” also increases Stamina Regen.
Blade Cave Treasure Chest
- Reward: Dark Ringleader’s Cloth Armor
This waterfall-hidden chest is in Blade Cave, a secret area. It can be found along a stream that feeds into the lower Nas River on the west side of Hernand, just south of Fort Warspike. It’s on the opposite side of the river falls from Shadowheart Grotto, which holds another piece of the Dark Ringleader armor set.
Head upstream past Phoniel Ranch and Witch’s House until the river splits into two waterfalls. Take the northern route on the right, leading below Fort Warspike. At the base of the falls, find a stack of rocks indicating a secret entrance just past the waterfall. Enter with the Stab technique at the correct angle (RB/R1 + Y/Triangle).
Inside, you’ll find a small cave full of treasures, including a Refined Palmar Pill and the Dark Ringleader’s Cloth Armor. It’s extravagant but functional, and its Abyss Gears add extra Movement Speed, Damage Reduction, and Spirit Regen.
Echoing Tunnel Treasure Chest
- Reward: Dark Ringleader’s Cloth Cloak
Another waterfall-hidden chest, this one is in the Echoing Tunnel secret area. It’s tucked under a waterfall in the heavily contested Fort Perwin area south along the Upper Nas River, just east of the entrance to Scholastone. You don’t need to clear Fort Perwin of Bleed Bandits—this route lets you sneak under without drawing attention.
Follow the river upstream west of the high church village of Senia. Continue along the river past the Fort Perwin Prison Camp toward the main fort upriver. Where the fort area has two waterfall drops, head up halfway and look for a stack of rocks—again, this marks a secret entrance just past the falls. Use the Stab technique at the correct angle (RB/R1 + Y/Triangle) to enter.
Inside is a small cave of treasures, including the Dark Ringleader’s Cloth Cloak.
The Singing Catfish Treasure Chest
- Reward: Pirate King Hat
This important chest is off the coast of Hernand, on a pirate ship in Steel Bay, just south of the fishing village of Vellua. On the shore, look for a few rowboats you can use to paddle toward the anchored ship.
Be extremely careful: the ship is surrounded by a minefield with aquatic mines floating in the water in all directions. You’ll need patience to skirt the hazards until they detonate.
Once you’re alongside the ship, jump off the rowboat and climb onto the main deck. Search the hold below decks to find a room with the Treasure Chest. Open it to claim the Pirate King Hat, which includes a special glow when a Treasure Chest is near.
Echoing Waves Cave Treasure Chest
- Reward: Sunset Reed Leather Armor, Refined Palmar Pill
This chest is hidden in a waterfall cave called the Echoing Waves Cave on the southern end of Hernand. It’s along the cliffs that circle the Bay of Steel on the west side. You can find it along the cliffs due west of the Sea Haze and Waterfall Shipwrecks, after an Abyss Teleporter, and south of the similarly hidden Dawn Cave.
Climb the waterfall halfway until you find a landing with a small pile of stones—this suggests there’s a cave beyond the falls. Enter using the Stab technique at the correct angle (RB/R1 + Y/Triangle). Inside is a small cave filled with treasures, including the Sunset Reed Leather Armor. The armor already has extra Defense, Movement Speed, and Stamina Regen.
Sanctum of Absolution Treasure Chest
- Reward: Sunset Reed Cloth Boots
This Treasure Chest is inside the Sanctum of Absolution, a large ruins area tied to the Witches Sidequests. It’s high up in the mountains in far southwestern Hernand, above Scholastone to the south.
You don’t have to cleanse the Sanctum to claim the treasure, but the area does contain enemies—and a very tough boss. Exploring too deeply may trap you into a fight.
To reach the chest, circle to the east side of the Sanctum’s outer walls and look up along the middle. Find a small stone ledge that looks slightly out of place. Use Force Palm on the wall from that ledge to reveal a rotating entrance that drops you inside to the chest. Loot it for the Sunset Reed Cloth Boots, which already include extra Defense and Movement Speed.
Castlewood Ruins Treasure Chest 2
- Reward: Sunset Reed Cloth Cloak
Because the Castlewood Ruins stretch far across the area, focus on the southern edge of the stone ruins, more toward the southeast of the map icon. This portion—just west of a small lake and stream—is covered with equipment and strange symbols, but those do not affect the treasure.
Instead, look for a large sealed gate along the ruins to the south. To open a path, light both stone braziers on either side by interacting with them. Once they’re lit, you can proceed to the chest and claim the Sunset Reed Cloth Cloak. Afterward, search farther north for another ruin section holding the Duskfang Leather Gloves.
Dawn Cave Treasure Chest
- Reward: Hollow Visage
This chest is hidden in the waterfall cave known as Dawn Cave on the southern end of Hernand. It’s along the cliffs that wrap around the Bay of Steel on its western side. The location is due west of the fishing village of Vellua and an Abyss Teleporter, and north of the similarly hidden Echoing Waves Cave.
Look up from the pool of water at the base of the waterfall until you reach a landing with a small pile of stones—this indicates there’s a cave beyond the falls. Enter using the Stab technique at the correct angle (RB/R1 + Y/Triangle). Inside is a small cave full of treasures, including the sword called Hollow Visage, which already includes extra Critical Rate, Attack, and Attack Speed.
Kharonso Cave Treasure Chest
- Reward: Reindeer Cloak, Refined Palmar Pill
This is one of two Treasure Chests found outside the Scholastone Academy in the far southwestern reaches of Hernand, in the village of Karonso. It isn’t technically a cave, but it is in an enclosed area below the cliffside at the edge of town.
From the village, find the Wrestling Arena across from the Equipment Vendor. Behind the bleachers, there’s a trail that leads into the cliff tunnels. Take the path upward, heading out and back through the tunnel until you reach the first of two barriers made of bismuth ore.
Use the Focused Force Palm skill you gained to break the ore after entering Scholastone. Beyond the barrier, you’ll find a cave holding the Reindeer Cloak. It makes up for lacking defense by letting you sneak up on wild deer.
Death’s Grip Cave Treasure Chest
- Reward: Survivor’s Solitude
This is the second of two Treasure Chests outside the Scholastone Academy in the far southwestern reaches of Hernand, in the village of Karonso. This chest is hidden in the waterfall cave known as Death’s Grip Cave on the northern edge of the village. It’s past Lake Kharonso—follow the stream north.
Find the base of the waterfall north of the lake by following the river upstream, then start climbing toward the top of the waterfall. Just before the top, you’ll see a landing with a small pile of stones, indicating a cave beyond the falls. Enter using the Stab technique at the correct angle (RB/R1 + Y/Triangle).
Inside, you’ll find a small cave of treasures including a Refined Palmar Pill and the sword called Survivor’s Solitude. The sword already includes extra Critical Rate, Attack, and Attack Speed.
Witch’s House Treasure Chest
- Reward: Lifsoth Large Shield
A Treasure Chest is located in Witch Elowen’s House in southern Hernand, west of the Hernand Highlands. Reach it through the Witchwoods that lead down to Fort Perwin and the entrance to Scholastone. You can reach the area early, but you’ll be prompted to visit the Witch during Chapter 5.
Even if you arrive before you can enter the front door, you can still grab the chest in the small adjoining tower to the right of the main home. Climb the small hill on the side, leap to the balcony, and you’ll reach the top floor where the Lifsoth Large Shield is located (it has no default Abyss Gears).
Sanctum of Temperance Treasure Chest 1
- Reward: Counterweight Leather Gloves
This is one of two Treasure Chests hidden in the Sanctum of Temperance, a large ruin in southern Hernand. It sits just below the Unicorn Cliffs, south of the Goldleaf Guildhouse, and north of Pororin Forest. While it begins empty, once you progress to Chapter 5 it will be guarded by the Antumbra Order.
As you approach the main Sanctum power source that needs cleansing, look a bit further north for a high ruined tower. Around the side is a small ledge with a sealed gate. Just to the left of this gate is a stone lantern you can light. Doing so opens the gate and reveals the room holding the Counterweight Leather Gloves. These gloves do not come with Abyss Gears already inserted.
Sanctum of Temperance Treasure Chest 2
- Reward: Odeck’s Protector Plate Boots, Palmar Pill
From the Coalvale Workshop, take the main road south to reach the front steps on the Sanctum’s lower side. Follow the steps upward to a small hole in the wall and climb through to find a floating Fusion Reactor Core used to cleanse the sanctum.
Just to the right of the core, look for foliage you can burn away to find Odeck’s Protector Plate Boots. These boots already include extra Movement Speed and Damage Reduction.
Perwin Quarry Treasure Chest
- Reward: Odeck’s Protector Plate Gloves, Palmar Pill
This Treasure Chest is in Perwin Quarry, a large mining area in the Roberts Estate south of Hernand, near the entrance to Scholastone and north of Fort Perwin. The entire area is under Bleed Bandits’ control.
Enter Perwin Quarry from the north, just below the Witchwoods and the Meshley Trapsmith. Whether the quarry is still under Bleed Bandit control or not, you can claim this treasure with little trouble. Still, it’s recommended to travel farther southwest to Scholastone first, because a blocked road there teaches you an essential skill: Focused Force Palm.
Look for a small trail on the north end of the quarry that leads to a blocked mine entry full of bismuth-type ore.
Enter a Focused State (press in both control sticks). Then hold the right stick to charge your Focused Force Palm against the yellow Abyss Cell that appears inside the ore. After the blast removes it, the Treasure Chest containing the Odeck’s Protector Plate Gloves is yours. It includes Abyss Gear bonuses that raise Health Regen and Climb Speed.
Starlight Storm Cave Treasure Chest
- Reward: Plate Gloves of the Fallen Kingdom
This chest is hidden behind a waterfall and is located in Starlight Storm Cave. It’s easy to find just west of Hernand City by following the nearby river upstream past the Kilnden Workshop and an Abyss Cresset puzzle in Duskwood.
Follow the river until you spot a cascading waterfall with an Abyss Teleporter at the bottom. Climb all the way up toward the source of the falls, where you can finally see a stack of rocks—an indicator of a secret entrance just past the waterfall. Enter with the Stab technique at the correct angle (RB/R1 + Y/Triangle).
Inside, you’ll find a small cave of treasures including the Plate Gloves of the Fallen Kingdom. The gloves provide healing-focused Abyss Gear bonuses such as increased Food Effects and Health Regen.
Frozen Soul Cave Treasure Chest
- Reward: Leather Armor of the Fallen Kingdom, Refined Palmar Pill
This Treasure Chest is behind a waterfall in Frozen Soul Cave. To reach it, head upriver through a long, winding stream crossing western Hernand, continuing up through Duskwood and past Fort Warspike and its outposts. It’s found just below the Sanctum of Benediction.
Follow the river until you see cascading waterfalls. Keep climbing them until you find one with a stack of rocks at the base, indicating a secret entrance just past the falls. Enter using the Stab technique at the correct angle (RB/R1 + Y/Triangle). Inside, you’ll find a small cave filled with treasures, including a Refined Palmar Pill and the Leather Armor of the Fallen Kingdom.
That armor includes unique Abyss Gear bonuses: increased Silver Gain, Stamina Regen, and Increased Swim Speed.
Sanctum of Benediction Treasure Chest
- Reward: Leather Helm of the Fallen Kingdom
This Treasure Chest is hidden within the Sanctum of Benediction, a large ruin on the western edge of Central Hernand. It’s due west of Hernand Town and is easiest to reach by heading upriver along the main road above a winding stream past the Duskwood area and beyond Fort Warspike. While the chest begins empty, once you reach Chapter 5 it will be guarded by the Antumbra Order.
After arriving via the main road, stay on the southwest side. Look for a main courtyard area with markings on the wall, then find a short set of stairs leading to a blank wall featuring a large symbol above it. This wall hides a secret door that you can open by lighting the stone brazier just to the right.
Inside, you’ll find both a reactor piece needed to cleanse the Sanctum and the chest containing the Leather Helm of the Fallen Kingdom. The helm already includes a bonus to Turning Slash.
Icemoor Castle Ruins Treasure Chest
- Reward: Leather Cloak of the Fallen Kingdom, Rapier of the Fallen Kingdom, Palmar Pill
This chest is in the Icemoor Castle Ruins, a large expansive ruin in central Hernand between the Hernand province and Calphade to the north. To reach it, work your way up west of Haunted Hill and Ivynook. Follow the road as it winds through the mountains, going past a large lake below the Sanctum of Atonement.
The ruins are also the location of a Side Quest boss battle: King of the Fallen Kingdom. Be ready to fight him and his minions as you approach the ruins.
Whether you fight the King of the Fallen Kingdom or not (he drops the Shield of the Fallen Kingdom), climb through the castle ruins to the far upper north side. From the top ramparts, look back south from above the throne where the King was. You’ll spot a small opening in the lower walls.
Go inside the crawlspace to find the chest holding the Leather Cloak of the Fallen Kingdom. In the corner, you can also grab the Rapier of the Fallen Kingdom, which can be equipped by Damiane.
Sanctum of Atonement Treasure Chest
- Reward: Mirror of Night, Palmar Pill
This Treasure Chest is inside the Sanctum of Atonement, a large ruin in Central Hernand. It sits on a haunted hill between the provinces of Hernand and Calphade. You can reach it by taking the main road north past Ivynook and looking for a large lake just west of the Sanctum. Though it starts empty, after Chapter 5 it will be guarded by the Antumbra Order.
After arriving by the main road, go to the back side where the reactor that needs purification is located. Just to the right of the reactor is a small building with a sealed gate. To open it, light two torches: one on the square ruin’s side and the other on the opposite side of the area.
Inside, you’ll find the Mirror of Night shield, which has no innate bonuses.
Frostclaw Cave Treasure Chest
- Reward: Plate Boots of the Shadows
This Treasure Chest is in the waterfall cave called Frostclaw Cave. To reach it, head upriver through a long, winding stream across western Hernand all the way to the Everfrost border. Continue up through Duskwood and past Fort Warspike and the Sanctum of Benediction.
Keep following the river almost to the open world boundary. You’ll eventually spot a very large waterfall with a stack of rocks at the base—this indicates a secret entrance just past the falls. Enter using the Stab technique at the correct angle (RB/R1 + Y/Triangle).
Inside, you’ll find a small treasure cave including the Plate Boots of the Shadows. Through Abyss Gears, the boots give increased Skill XP Gain and Increased Climb Speed.
Everfrost Cave Treasure Chest
- Reward: Plate Gloves of the Shadows
This Treasure Chest is inside Everfrost Cave, a hidden spot with an ice cavern layout. The cave is extremely hard to spot because it’s tucked into mountains south of the long river that runs through western Hernand toward the edge of the world. The easiest route is to reach Frostclaw Cave first, since that’s where another piece of the Armor of the Shadows can be found.
From Frostclaw Cave, climb south along the edge of the world (you’ll receive a prompt to return, so keep within the edge). Then scan the upper mountain ridges for an icy opening facing northeast. Enter the ice interior and slide down to reach a small cave full of treasures, including the Plate Gloves of the Shadows.
These gloves provide Abyss Gear bonuses that increase both Swim and Climb Speed.
Hoenmark Ruins Treasure Chest
- Reward: Plate Cloak of the Shadows
This Treasure Chest is in the large Hoenmark Ruins on the western side of Central Hernand, halfway between Hernand City and the Calphade province. The ruins sit in a wide basin far west of Icemoor Castle Ruins and below the long river that runs west from Deepfog Basin.
Because of this, it’s recommended to avoid Beloth and the path leading up through the basin from the east, since it’s guarded by what’s described as near endless flying wraiths. Instead, head up the far western mountains to an unmarked beacon protected by Black Bears, giving you a view over the ruins to the east.
From that vantage point, fly down into the blizzard and aim for the nearest large square ruin at the top on the western side, staying well away from the center where Beloth waits. Look along the top of the stone building for a smaller square section that looks different. Crouch down and Force Palm the floor to reveal a trapdoor underneath.
Inside is the Plate Cloak of Shadows, which boasts a huge amount of Fire Resistance.
Everfrost Watchtower Treasure Chest
- Reward: Plate Armor of the Shadows, Palmar Pill
This Treasure Chest is just outside the Everfrost Watchtower, a defensive installation high on the northwestern side of Hernand and due southwest of Calphade. To find it, head up the river leading west from Deepfog Basin and go north away from Hoenmark Ruins.
The Everfrost Watchtower is heavily guarded by Blackbears and includes multiple levels of towers and structures. Make your way to the highest tier. On the top ledge, walk south along the cliffs until you find a small alcove with a sealed gate. To open it, light the stone brazier near the gate.
Inside, you’ll find the Plate Armor of the Shadows, which grants immunity to Petrification, increased Defense, and Stamina Regen.
Ancient Heart’s Cave Treasure Chest
- Reward: Vaporwalker, Palmar Pill
Find a Treasure Chest in the waterfall cave known as Ancient Heart’s Cave. It’s located in the special region called the Ancient Rift, a large enchanted chasm in the northeast of Hernand by Pailune’s border, north of Drakesfall Gorge.
Enter the Ancient Rift from its western side, where two waterfalls drop down over unusual rock formations. Float about halfway down to find a walkway along the lower cliffs and floating rocks. Look for a break near the westernmost waterfall.
Near this spot, you’ll find a small stack of rocks that indicates a cave beyond the falls. Enter using the Stab technique at the correct angle (RB/R1 + Y/Triangle). Inside, you’ll find a small cave full of Silver Ore (recommended to mine) and the Vaporwalker Boots.
These boots have a special movement ability: they let you slide extremely fast through shallow water when performing a crouch slide.
Arboria Spider Cave Treasure Chest
- Reward: Reins of the Open Sky
This Treasure Chest is in Arboria Spider Cave, a small eerie cave in the center of the Hills of No Return. It’s on Hernand’s far northeastern side, due east of Calphade territory. The cave is in a crevice around a hilltop surrounded by poison spores, south of the Hernand North Gate and north of Hilgard Outpost.
Look around the hill for a crevice that leads down into a tunnel lined with spider webs (there are thankfully no spiders inside). Head into the main chamber of Arboria Spider Cave and look for a cluster of giant spider eggs. Break them with a strong attack to reveal a chamber beyond.
In that chamber, you’ll find the Reins of the Open Sky, a distinctive glove pair that boosts your grip while climbing. These match with the Stirrups of the Open Sky, which you can get from a nearby quest to defeat a Queen Spider.
Twilight Grotto Treasure Chest
- Reward: Scorchflame Plate Gloves, Palmar Pill
You can find a Treasure Chest hidden in the waterfall cave called the Twilight Grotto on the eastern edge of Hernand. It’s just above the Hook Rapids and a road that connects up to the Hills of No Return, south of the Arboria Craftshop and Saddlewind Ranch.
Just west of an unnamed tannery with the Path Crossing the River quest, there’s a small ravine with waterfalls. Glide in from the south and head to the waterfall in the top northwest corner. At its base, find a landing with a small pile of stones—this indicates a cave beyond the falls.
Enter using the Stab technique at the correct angle (RB/R1 + Y/Triangle). Inside, you’ll find a small cave full of treasures, including a Refined Palmar Pill and the Scorchflame Plate Gloves. These gloves have a special ability that imbues your attacks with fire.
Silent Falls Hideout Treasure Chest
- Reward: Scorchflame Plate Cloak, Refined Palmar Pill
This challenging Treasure Chest is tied to Treasure Map Piece 1, which you can find at the Bellanor Beacon Stronghold. The map points to a grotto filled with waterfalls on Hernand’s eastern edge, just above the Hook Rapids and a road that connects up to the Hills of No Return, south of the Arboria Craftshop and Saddlewind Ranch.
Just west of an unnamed tannery that has the Path Crossing the River quest, the map highlights a large waterfall grotto. While the northeast waterfall hides the Scorchflame Plate Gloves, the entrance to Silent Falls Hideout is on the south side of this ravine.
Inside the secret area, you’ll need to defeat a rock boss called the Gravewalker. The guide suggests stunning it to expose vulnerable pieces. When it’s down, you can open a nearby gate containing a Sorcerer’s Staff, but the Treasure Map provides the final clue.
On the high wall to the right of the staff is a secret revolving door. Use your lantern high up to spot a small green palmar leaf symbol.
Climb up and cling to the wall (hold L2) before using Force Palm, so you don’t blast backward. Instead, revolve with the door to reach the chest containing the Scorchflame Plate Cloak.
Torchlight Cabin Treasure Chest
- Reward: Valortread Armor Set
The Treasure Chest at Torchlight Cabin in Hernand isn’t like the usual chests—it functions as a quest reward. You only get it after completing a legendary animal hunt with many prerequisites.
Based on the information provided, the quest to hunt the legendary Black Lion is said to appear only after you’ve completed almost all major questlines from the different House factions of Hernand, including:
- House Celeste (at least 20 quests total, including the Legendary Wolf, Queen of the Silkspun Citadel, and Frozen Eldertree questlines)
- House Serkis (including the Lord Amidst the Ruins and The Nemesis’ Demise questlines)
- House Robers (including the Continuing Concern questline)
- Beggars Alliance
- Kharonso Troll Alliance
If you’re unsure, keep checking the Hernand region for any major questline that shows on your map until you complete the Frozen Eldertree questline. After some time, you can start the Legendary Animals questline, but it won’t show on the map. Instead, travel to Lioncrest Manor just outside Hernand City. Look for a Wandering Sellsword outside the gate who asks to speak with you.
He’ll mention tracking a legendary hunter and share a lead. This points toward a hunter at a trading post, but to get him to talk you must raise your Trust level with him (any pelt adds +50 Trust). Once you do, he gives you a map pointing to Torchlight Cabin, located on the hill north of Hernand City overlooking the bridge across Three Saints’ Falls.
Enter the cabin to find the legendary hunter, who seems nervous and only wants to drink. As before, raise your Trust level; Wine increases his Trust by +50. As thanks, he finally gives you the Black Lion Observation Log, which officially places the lion on the map.
This legendary beast can be found along the border between Demeniss and the Crimson Desert, between the Hexe Sanctuary to the west and the Valley of the Moon to the east. Look for a cliffside full of bare trees, then kill the Black Lion when it arrives.
After defeating and skinning the beast, return to Torchlight Cabin. You’ll receive a message from the hunter, who has left a unique chest in the corner of the room. Open it to get the full set of Valortread Armor.
- The Valortread Helm provides Daze Immunity and Ice Resistance
- The Valortread Plate Cloak includes Fire Resistance and Reduced Stamina Cost
- The Valortread Plate Armor offers increased Stamina Regen, Food Effect, and a Climb Speed Multiplier
- The Valortread Plate Gloves add improved Defense and Fire Resistance
- The Valortread Plate Boots grant increased Damage Reduction and a Swim Speed Multiplier
Sanctum of Deliverance Treasure Chest
- Reward: Alpha Wolf Helm
This Treasure Chest is behind a locked gate on the southern side of the Sanctum of Deliverance. It’s also the same room where you pick up the second block.
To unlock the gate, light the two lanterns found on either side of it.
Once the gate is open, enter the room and check the back wall. The Treasure Chest there contains the Alpha Wolf Helm.
Nightstorm Cave Treasure Chest
- Reward: Plate Boots of the Fallen Kingdom, Palmar Pill
This Treasure Chest is behind a waterfall leading to Nightstorm Cave, directly north of the first “N” in Hernand. The cave is about halfway up the waterfall set in the area.
As you approach, look for a small stack of rocks near the Nightstorm Cave—this indicates a cave beyond the falls. Enter using the Stab technique at the correct angle (RB/R1 + Y/Triangle).
Inside, go to the end of the cave. There you’ll find the Treasure Chest containing Plate Boots of the Fallen Kingdom and a Palmar Pill.
Church of Calphade Treasure Chest
- Reward: Shield of Conviction, Pillar Pill
This Treasure Chest is in a hidden room directly beneath the Bell at the Church of Calphade.
To reach it, climb the northern side of the church tower and locate a broken window just below the floor with the bell.
Climb through the window to find a small room containing a hidden Treasure Chest with the Shield of Conviction and a Palmar Pill.
The Forgotten Prayer Hall Treasure Chest
- Reward: Traitor’s Spear
This Treasure Chest is located in The Forgotten Prayer Hall, a secret location not too far northeast of Thalywnd in Hernand.
To reach The Forgotten Prayer Hall, first travel to the Calphade Logging Camp. From there, follow the path north until you reach a crossroads where you see a small two-story structure being built beside piles of planks.
Approach the structure and find a trapdoor hidden on the ground level. Open it and climb down to reach The Forgotten Prayer Hall.
After descending the ladder, head down the nearby stairs, but don’t enter the next room yet. In the next room, you’ll encounter several lasers that target you, though they move slowly.
You have two options here:
- Use Axiom Force to grab and hold the orbs that send the lasers from nearby statues across the room, destroying them. Some may require using Force Current to break them.
- Or, quickly dash across the room toward the locked gate, since the lasers can’t reach you. This is riskier because you can take a lot of damage if you’re not fast enough.
Destroying each laser rewards you with Abyss Cells and unique Power Cores, such as the Power Core – Verse of Sowing.
Whether you cleared the area or not, approach the locked gate on the far side of the room.
Light the two lanterns on either side and watch as the gate opens.
Inside, you’ll find the Traitor’s Spear on the prayer altar.
