“They knew how difficult the game would be and so did we, but they got the better of us,” Arteta said. “They had more bite, their timing was better, and in the 50-50 situations the ball generally went their way.”

The result marked Arsenal’s first Premier League defeat by three goals since Brighton won 3-0 at the Emirates Stadium in May 2023. It was also the first points Arsenal had surrendered in this season’s league campaign.
Arteta stressed that one poor afternoon should not erase his team’s work over recent weeks, but warned that the same outcome could follow if Arsenal do not respond to the issues exposed on the south coast.
