Brentford Hit Three Past Chelsea After Half-Time at Gtech Community Stadium
Brentford produced a commanding 3-0 home victory over Chelsea at the Gtech Community Stadium, scoring three times after the interval to leave the visitors with a second league defeat in five matches.
Chelsea had looked the more threatening side before half-time, with Pedro Neto and Cole Palmer both involved in a number of promising attacks. Yet their early control brought no breakthrough, and Brentford’s resilience allowed the contest to turn decisively after the restart.
Set-piece weakness punished again
Jaidon Anthony put Brentford ahead in the 61st minute, finishing a corner routine that Chelsea failed to deal with. It was the fifth goal the Blues have conceded from a set piece this season, with their defenders unable to react as the hosts took control.
Keith Andrews’ side then won the physical exchanges in midfield and restricted Chelsea’s attacking players to very little. Brentford continued to target spaces behind the visitors’ defence with direct passes and rapid breaks.
The second goal arrived in the 82nd minute. Mikkel Damsgaard began the move before finding Kevin Schade, whose shot was stopped. Thiago was quickest to the loose ball and converted the rebound, ending a run of seven matches without a goal.
Carvalho seals the result on his return
Brentford added a third in the 94th minute when Schade’s long throw caused further disorder in the Chelsea area. Fabio Carvalho found himself free at the far post and finished calmly.
The goal carried added significance for Carvalho, who had recently returned from a serious knee problem that had kept him out for nearly a year.
The result moves Brentford into third place on nine points. They remain unbeaten after two wins and three draws. Chelsea, meanwhile, are seventh with seven points and will use the international break to address a defensive record that again proved costly in west London.
Alonso and his coaching staff now turn their attention to Chelsea’s next fixture, against Bournemouth on October 10.
