Barcelona Monitor International Workload Ahead of Getafe Clash
Barcelona will begin their preparations for Saturday’s home match against Getafe with a close watch on the condition of their international players, after a three-week break that has brought both impressive performances and a substantial accumulation of minutes.
Heavy international workload for Barcelona players
- Ten Barcelona players still have international commitments on Tuesday, leaving Hansi Flick with limited time to bring the full group together before the return of domestic football.
- Lamine Yamal has started each of Spain’s first three fixtures during the break, playing 203 minutes and registering four goals plus one assist.
- Spain coach Luis de la Fuente has sought to limit Yamal’s involvement, saying no player will be used for more than 270 minutes across the four matches. He also highlighted the teenager’s relentless desire to play and improve.
- Gordon has also started three times for England under Thomas Tuchel, totalling 218 minutes. The winger has scored in all three appearances.
- João Cancelo has carried the largest workload among the Barcelona contingent, starting four matches for Portugal and reaching 305 minutes. He scored against Denmark and Norway.
Managed minutes and fitness concerns
Not every player has been required to play heavily. Pedri has recorded 120 minutes, while Fermín López has played 80 and Dani Olmo 149. Pau Cubarsí completed two full matches, but Jules Koundé featured for only 90 minutes with France.
Barcelona have also had two minor fitness issues during the international window. Eric García departed the Spain camp early after experiencing discomfort, while Raphinha left Brazil duty because of a muscle complaint. Subsequent examinations did not identify a serious injury for the Brazilian.
Limited turnaround before Getafe
- Spain are due to travel to Croatia on Tuesday, while England will host Czechia, meaning several Barcelona players will remain away until the final day of the break.
- Flick will then assess the squad’s recovery and readiness after their return to the club.
- Barcelona host Getafe on Saturday, beginning a demanding sequence of fixtures with little opportunity for their international regulars to rest or fully reintegrate.
The performances of Yamal, Gordon and Cancelo have underlined their importance for their countries, but the volume of football played has made player management an immediate priority for Barcelona ahead of the weekend.
