Assassin’s Creed Black Flag: Black Bart’s Gambit Mission Guide (Sequence 10)
Black Bart’s Gambit is the thirty-second mission in the main storyline of Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced, and it’s also the first job in Sequence 10. The setup is straightforward: Roberts is tasked with tracking down a Portuguese vessel, but he quickly pivots to a plan that relies on stealth, timing, and controlled boarding. This walkthrough-style guide breaks down each objective and the most practical ways to handle the encounters you’ll run into.
Checklists
Black Bart’s Gambit is the thirty-second mission in the main story of Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced and the first in Sequence 10. While hunting the Portuguese ship, Roberts comes up with a ruse. In this walkthrough, the goal is to lay out the mission objectives and suggest approaches for each situation you’ll face.
How to Begin Black Bart’s Gambit
Once you’ve finished Sequence 9, you’ll be in the area around Misteriosa. To start Black Bart’s Gambit, sail southwest toward map coordinates 85,90 in Seranilla.
As you approach, you’ll notice the Princess already docked. Pull alongside it to trigger the quest, then follow Roberts as you search for the Portuguese ship at map coordinates 70,54.
Pathfinder won’t help much here because the route is tight and winding. Still, the ship you’re looking for should be visible fairly quickly. Use your Spyglass to study the first vessel you spot, and Roberts will tell you that you need their specific flag.
The mission is designed around stealth, so wait until the crew is fully occupied with conversation. Then swim over to the ship’s western side. Keep an eye out for a single guard patrolling the area; the rest should remain distracted by the ongoing talk.
When the patrol guard turns away from the west, climb the ropes to reach the gunner positioned at the top. Take down both targets quickly so you don’t get noticed, grab the flag, and complete the objective.
After that, sail southeast past the nearby boats, then head east to find the Nosso Senhor. Get close enough and Roberts will send you ashore to retrieve the chest.
Approach the shoreline from the south. Use reeds and bushes to slip toward the chest located in the southeast. You can avoid every guard in the area and slip through the entrance into the next stretch of beach.
In the next area, the left-side bushes let you sneak right up to the chest again. Loot it, and the game will prompt you to eliminate the guard stationed in the watchtower.
Run to the bush beneath the ladder. Wait until the guard is no longer being watched, then climb up and take him out. The Jackdaw will catch up as you finish, letting you jump off the watchtower and land back on it.
Tail the Nosso Senhor
With the ship objective set, continue forward and tail the Portuguese vessel. Stay at a distance so they don’t spot you. At your next checkpoint, you’ll be asked to deal with two watchtowers.
Make your way toward the beach. Use the reeds to move toward the guard stationed near the fire farthest to the south. Eliminate him, then wait for the next patrol to rotate in so you can clear that area too. Because the guard patrols, you’ll want to avoid being detected while you line up the assassination.
Wait until the guard higher up starts moving in the opposite direction, then double assassinate the two near the fire just before the watchtower. From there, climb the nearby tree to reach the first watchtower.
Keep pushing and remove the two enemies by the bell. Once they’re down, sabotage the bell, then head east toward a small cave. Two guards will move in your direction; let them reposition first, then assassinate both. After that, you can take the third guard on the other side of the cave, positioned just to the left.
Now work your way toward the watchtower area. Expect heavy presence: there are many guards here and also on the boat itself. Head for the camp with two guards near the fire, plus another guard who is sleeping.
Use the bushes to circle around and move beneath the watchtower. Then climb quickly and assassinate the guard before anyone can react.
At this point, the path for the Jackdaw is cleared. Your next step is to board the Nosso Senhor and assassinate the captain.
One effective approach is to move to the northern side of the boat, climb the ropes, and then leap down to strike the captain from above.
That plan doesn’t stay quiet for long. Once you commit, you’ll be pulled into a naval battle against a number of other ships. The good news is that most of them are small vessels, which can be destroyed by ramming them.
You should expect at least two frigates. If you clear out the smaller boats first, you can then focus your full assault on the two larger ships. If you start taking damage, prioritize taking one down so you can use it to recover the Jackdaw’s health.
When you succeed in the fight, the mission concludes.
