Andrea Camplone in Intensive Care After Cardiac Arrest During Padel Match
Former Pescara captain and Perugia title-winning coach Andrea Camplone is in intensive care after suffering a cardiac arrest while playing padel at a sports complex in Montesilvano.
Emergency treatment and hospital update
- Camplone lost consciousness at about 6.30pm local time during the padel match.
- A doctor present at the complex began first aid before 118 emergency personnel reached the venue.
- Paramedics used a mechanical chest-compression device during the resuscitation effort and intubated the former right-back at the scene.
- He was then taken under Code Red to the Spirito Santo Civil Hospital in Pescara.
- Doctors carried out an emergency haemodynamics procedure overnight, which was completed successfully.
Camplone is now described as stable in intensive care, although doctors have kept their prognosis guarded because of his previous cardiovascular problems. He remains under continuous observation after the cardiac arrest.
Further specialist tests and assessments following intubation are planned before the next medical update is issued. Police have also been notified of the incident at the sports facility as part of the standard process for completing official reports.
Camplone’s career in Italian football
Camplone was a prominent figure in Pescara’s rise under Giovanni Galeone, captaining the club during its promotions to Serie A in 1987 and again in 1992.
His playing career also included Perugia, where he secured consecutive promotions to take the Umbrian side into the top division. He later returned to lead Perugia as head coach and won the 2013-14 Serie C championship.
Across his coaching career, Camplone also managed Virtus Lanciano, Benevento, Bari, Cesena and Catania.
