Speaking before Liverpool’s Champions League opening match against Atletico Madrid, Mac Allister said the message delivered through his agent had been difficult to accept. He insisted that his commitment to the club has not changed and that he will continue to give everything in training and matches.
The 27-year-old acknowledged that performances can fluctuate, but said his application has remained constant throughout his time at Anfield. Mac Allister was part of Liverpool’s Premier League-winning side and believes the group have also endured difficult periods together.
His future became a subject of discussion during the latest transfer window, and the midfielder confirmed that a departure from Merseyside was possible. He has nevertheless chosen to remain with Liverpool and said he still believes he is at the right club.
“There were possibilities to go during the summer,” Mac Allister said. “For now, I am in the right place and my mentality is to give 100 per cent for this club.”
Mac Allister also addressed the recent long-term extensions signed by fellow midfielders Dominik Szoboszlai and Ryan Gravenberch. He said both players deserved their new agreements, while admitting their renewals made his own position more frustrating.
He stressed that supporters need not question his effort while he remains a Liverpool player, saying he will continue to give his all until his final day at the club. However, he made clear that the absence of progress on a new deal has left him saddened.
There have been no direct discussions between Mac Allister and Liverpool’s board. Instead, the communication has taken place through his representatives, and the player said he had not received a detailed explanation beyond being told that a renewal was not currently possible.
Mac Allister did not rule out a change in Liverpool’s stance. He said any future decision could depend on his displays over the coming season, adding that the club are entitled to make their own call while he hopes they reconsider.
