Path of Exile 2 Update 0.4.0 Trade Guide for Market-Style Wunsch-Items

Trading has become one of the fastest ways to get stronger in Path of Exile 2, especially when you keep rolling the “wrong” drops during boss fights. With Update 0.4.0 (tied to The Third Edict), the game’s item exchange has also moved further toward asynchronous, marketplace-style purchasing—while still relying on player-to-player setups behind the scenes.

From website trading to asynchronous buys

When Early Access began, Path of Exile 2 didn’t include an auction house or similar system for listing items directly in-game. Instead, players primarily traded through a separate site run at pathofexile.com.

That site still lets you buy (and sell) nearly every item in the game, including when your build needs something specific but the boss keeps dropping the wrong gear. If you can find what you need, you can also list your own items there to earn currencies.

How to set up your trade account

To use the trading site, you need a “Path of Exile” account. If you don’t have one, create it, then link it on pathofexile.com to the platform where you purchased the game.

Players are also advised to set the website language using the flags in the top-right corner to match the language used in-game. This helps you find the exact items you’re searching for without translation friction.

How asynchronous trading works in The Third Edict

With the launch of the update, The Third Edict expands trading in a noticeable way: you can buy items immediately even if the seller is offline. This is the core of the new asynchronous trading system.

Premium stash tabs can be converted into Merchant Tabs. When a buyer purchases from a Merchant Tab, the buyer pays a small gold fee for the transaction, while the seller does not pay a fee for items that are sold or merely offered.

Endgame Market Browser: buy without waiting for the seller

An additional addition is an endgame market browser. You can open it through the menu entry “Market Panel” (short key: /), then search for the item you want.

Once you find it, you can click “Secure Item” to teleport directly to the seller’s hideout. From there, you buy the item in that seller’s shop. Importantly, the seller doesn’t need to be online for this to work, and the browser provides nearly all the same functions as the previous trading website.

Buying items: search, filter, and verify

Whether you’re using the trade site or the new endgame market browser, you can search and filter items directly. Filters can target values, item types, and specific properties—such as showing only items that grant bonuses to minions.

Before you trust results, make sure you set the league you’re playing. If you don’t, the search defaults to the Standard league even if your character isn’t there.

It’s also critical to use the requirements filter. An item that looks perfect for your build won’t help if your character level or stat thresholds make it unusable for hours.

After filtering, you’ll see the listings with the relevant price information. If the listed price matches what you want to pay, the next step is sending a direct request to the seller by using the “Direct Whisper” option.

If the seller isn’t AFK, they typically invite you to a group. Accept the invite and then visit the seller’s hideout by right-clicking their icon and using the appropriate button to enter.

If neither you nor the seller has a hideout ready, you’ll need to agree on a trading location. Many players choose the city from Act 1. Once you’re in the same region, right-click the player and select “Trade.” Place the payment in your field, wait for the item to appear, hover to confirm the values, and then confirm the exchange.

Asynchronous purchase flow: teleport and claim

For asynchronous trading, you can use the new teleportation button to go straight to the seller’s base. Then you talk to the shop’s NPC to receive the item.

There’s one hard limitation: if the seller’s home is full, you won’t be able to enter.

Selling items: Merchant Tabs, pricing, and listings

To sell items through the market, you need a premium trading tab. Without it, you can still trade, but your items won’t appear on the official listing page, dramatically reducing your chances of a sale.

Before listing, configure your trading tab correctly. Open the tab settings by right-clicking the tab name, set it to “Public,” and choose “Individual price per item” as the preferred pricing method.

Place the item you want to sell into the premium trading tab, then right-click the item to set a price. You can choose a negotiation basis or a fixed price, and item pricing for PoE 2 is typically expressed in Exalted Orbs.

After you price an item, it should appear on the public trading website shortly afterward. Keep an eye on chat messages to spot when a potential buyer responds.

When a buyer contacts you, invite them to a group and meet in your hideout. If you’re in the same region, right-click the buyer, select “Trade,” put the item in your field, and wait for payment before confirming. Hover over the payment to verify it matches what you agreed on.

Warning signs: common scam patterns

Trading comes with scammers and trade bots trying to take advantage of impatient or careless players. Several red flags are listed: the other party interrupts the trade, the item shown has a different look even though the name matches (for example, Silk Robe), and they push you to use a middleman.

Other warning signs include getting hit with a flood of messages after you list items, and being asked to trade your item for another item rather than for currency.

Always double-check the item and the price you listed. If something feels off—or the process stalls—break the trade politely.

Gold isn’t for item trading, and scams exploit pricing

A specific rule matters: trading with gold isn’t possible for item exchanges. Gold mainly applies to transactions with NPCs, and it isn’t meant for item trading via the website. The update also uses gold for the new asynchronous trading fee.

When selling, compare your item against similar listings and price accordingly. If you underprice, you’ll quickly get a surge of requests. If nobody responds after a while, reduce the price. Alternatively, you can list a bit higher for asynchronous trading and leave it for several days before adjusting.

There’s also a tactic where scammers intentionally list expensive items too cheaply to undercut others, hoping you’ll sell them your item at a worse rate. Don’t judge only by the single cheapest listing—check more than that.
