Nintendo Files Fresh DMCA Takedowns, Removing 401 Switch Emulation Repos on GitHub
Nintendo has launched another round of DMCA takedowns targeting Nintendo Switch emulation projects hosted on GitHub, removing 401 repositories tied to emulator software in a fresh burst of notices filed with the platform.

Newly filed DMCA notifications were submitted to GitHub by Nintendo, and the latest wave resulted in the removal of 401 repositories that contained Switch emulator builds. A report on the takedowns says seven separate notifications were responsible for the removals.

Yuzu’s legacy and the broader emulator target list
This escalation is part of an ongoing campaign. In May 2024, Nintendo reportedly triggered a takedown of more than 8,500 Yuzu emulator clones in a single DMCA wave. A further push followed in February 2026, aimed at repositories still hosting Yuzu and at least a dozen other Switch emulators.
In the most recent removals, Suyu—described as one of the most popular successors after Yuzu’s collapse—accounts for the majority of the deleted repositories. The purge also included other projects such as Skyline (an Android Switch emulator), MonoNX (a C# project), and multiple forks derived from Yuzu’s original code.
What Nintendo says the emulators are doing
For users who visited the affected repositories before they were removed, the platform now displays a notice explaining the takedown. Nintendo’s DMCA text alleges that the reported repositories provide access to Nintendo Switch emulators, and that those emulators illegally bypass Nintendo’s technical protection measures to run unauthorized copies of Switch games.
Nintendo’s reasoning centers on how Switch software is decrypted. The company points to the use of proprietary cryptographic keys—commonly referred to as prod.keys—and states that the emulators it targeted require unauthorized copies of those keys to decrypt pirated ROMs before or during execution. Nintendo characterizes this as “illegal traffic” designed specifically to circumvent a technical protection measure.

Beyond this single takedown wave, the pattern highlighted by the filings suggests a continuing cat-and-mouse dynamic: when emulation projects are removed, successor implementations and forks can quickly reappear elsewhere.
