Star Fox Progression Guide: Unlock Expert Mode, Endings, and Cosmetics
Star Fox has a few standout progression goals—difficulty unlocks, ending requirements, avatar/AR options, and online cosmetic collectibles—plus some small touches players can interact with while the game loads. Here’s what to know, in the same order these unlock paths and features come up.

Unlock Expert Mode
To unlock Expert Mode in Star Fox, you need to collect a medal on every stage while playing Campaign Mode. This includes both versions of Venom. After you’ve earned and seen all medals displayed on the campaign map, you can then choose the difficulty setting from the main menu.
Sunglasses Unlock
Once Expert Mode is unlocked, Fox will also wear sunglasses while you play it—matching the look of his father, James McCloud.
Normal vs True Ending
Star Fox has two endings depending on the route you take:
The “bad” ending comes from finishing the game by beating Venom 1. The “true” ending is earned by completing your run on Venom 2. (The true ending is tied directly to that Venom 2 completion.)
Character Avatars and AR Accessories
If you use Game Chat while playing Star Fox and plug in a USB camera, you can apply AR filters that let you appear as a range of classic Star Fox characters. Your starting roster includes Star Fox and Star Wolf. To unlock additional characters, complete challenges in Challenge Mode and earn medals in the campaign.
Battle Banner Cosmetics
On Switch 2, Star Fox includes a customizable Battle Banner shown to other players when you’re playing online in Battle Mode. There are 61 background options and 79 emblems in total to unlock. The specific requirements for each item are displayed on the Battle Banner customization screen, which you can access from the top of the main menu.
Easter Eggs
Interactive Load Screen
During the load screen sequences, you can take control of the small Arwing in the lower-right corner window. You can move it up and down, bank, and even perform barrel rolls while the game is loading.
