The Blood of Dawnwalker: Coen Faces Daylight Weakness in Early “Legendary Feat

Rebel Wolves’ upcoming action RPG The Blood of Dawnwalker is shaping an early-game challenge for its vampire-adjacent protagonist Coen: his abilities won’t fully protect him during daylight, making an aggressive “legendary feat” goal much harder right from the start.

Daylight turns Coen into an easier target

Studio director Konrad Tomaszkiewicz has teased that Coen’s half-vampire nature won’t give him meaningful advantages while the sun is up. In that window, killing the hero is described as “very easy,” with the important caveat that Coen can still access some powers—just not all, and with significant weakening compared to what he can do after sunset.

Tomaszkiewicz also framed the limitation as a deliberate design choice. Rebel Wolves wanted a protagonist who could realistically be hurt or die, because those stakes matter for storytelling. As he put it, avoiding an overly powerful hero helps the narrative work—otherwise it becomes harder to build tension around outcomes that “are really important.”

Why this changes missions and early boss attempts

Because Coen is less capable in daytime, gameplay during daylight missions is expected to demand a different approach than nighttime play. The director specifically noted that players who try to rush the game’s final boss immediately after the prologue may find the day encounter particularly punishing. Even taking it at night is still expected to be a major challenge, but the daylight window adds another layer of risk.

At the same time, the game’s daylight weakness creates a clear sandbox goal for players who want to push through the entire experience under sunlit conditions. The studio’s design choices effectively set up a harder route for that run type, without removing it as a possibility.

Release timing and where to play

  • Release date: 3 September
  • Platforms: PC, Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5

The Blood of Dawnwalker launches on PC, Xbox Series X|S, and PS5 on 3 September. With the daylight power suppression confirmed, players will quickly learn how much they can rely on Coen’s kit before nightfall—and whether “legendary” early-game attempts can be pulled off under the sun.
