Netflix’s latest viral thriller, La última casa, has taken the streaming world by storm in its opening week—landing at the top of the global charts within days, racking up tens of millions of views, and pulling in major names like Wagner Moura and Greta Lee. The catch: while audiences are clearly clicking, critical and viewer ratings have been far less enthusiastic.

Netflix describes the story as follows: a family trapped inside their home must band together to survive a shortage of resources and a sinister threat that prevents them from leaving. The film stars Greta Lee, Wagner Moura, and Gabriel Barbosa.

Louis Leterrier built a “real” house to make it feel practical

Director Louis Leterrier—known for titles such as The Transporter, The Incredible Hulk, Clash of the Titans, and Fast X—said the production was especially demanding. In comments relayed via The Hollywood Reporter, he explained that the team aimed for practicality by constructing a real house and an entire neighborhood set on the soundstage.

Leterrier added that as the movie progressed, the house itself evolved alongside the plot, making the shoot “very technical” and difficult—but also something he enjoyed throughout. He also noted how the cast and crew regularly reacted during production, reflecting just how tough it became day to day.

Big audience pull, mixed-to-negative scores

Despite strong early momentum on Netflix, La última casa has not matched that success with favorable ratings. On Rotten Tomatoes, it currently holds 24% positive reviews from critics and 28% positive feedback from audiences. On IMDb, the film’s average stands at 5.5.

Even so, the film continues to draw viewers for its suspense-forward runtime—described as nearly two hours of thriller tension, including several especially intense moments.
