Palworld Hardwood Guide: Best Farming Spots and Efficient Methods
Hardwood is one of the key new crafting resources introduced in Palworld 1.0. At first it can feel like just another material, but it becomes far more valuable once you’re building toward advanced gear, upgraded structures, and higher-tier Pal Spheres. Unlike standard Wood, Hardwood doesn’t drop from every tree or source, so learning where it spawns—and how to farm it efficiently—can cut down on a lot of wasted time.
In order to locate Hardwood, you’ll need to head out after dark and hunt the glowing black-sand deposits that are tied to its specific sources.
How to Get Hardwood in Palworld
There are several ways to obtain Hardwood, though some are clearly more efficient than others.
Chop Down Trees
The quickest method is to fell the larger trees that grow on Sakurajima and Feybreak Island. Not every tree yields Hardwood, so you’ll want to focus on the rougher, more distinctive tree types rather than the common varieties you encounter in earlier regions.
On Sakurajima, a reliable farming route begins at the Secluded Cemetery fast travel point. From there, move downhill into the surrounding forest packed with cherry blossom trees. The reddish-trunk sakura trees consistently drop Hardwood when cut, which is why many players consider them one of the most dependable spots in the game.
Feybreak Island offers another strong option. The island’s big, rugged-looking trees can be found across the area and are also known for reliably producing Hardwood. Because many of these trees grow close together, you can collect a lot without spending much time traveling between nodes.
Build Logging Site II
Once you’ve gathered enough Hardwood manually, you can shift into an automated setup that keeps production steady.
After reaching Level 43, unlock Logging Site II via the Technology Tree using 3 Ancient Technology Points. You’ll also need 100 Hardwood to construct it, which makes this one of the first meaningful “late-game commitment” purchases for players moving beyond basic crafting.
After you place Logging Site II inside your base, assign a Pal with high Lumbering work suitability to the site. The better the Pal’s Lumbering level, the faster Hardwood will be produced. If you’re planning large construction projects or crafting large numbers of advanced items, unlocking Logging Site II is an investment that pays off quickly.
Using multiple Lumbering-capable Pals can significantly increase output, and it becomes even more effective if your base already has transportation Pals to move materials into storage.
Capture Wild Pals
Hardwood can also be obtained by defeating certain wild Pals. This approach does work, but it’s slower than tree farming since each Pal typically provides only a small amount of Hardwood.
The following Pals can drop Hardwood:
- Mossanda
- Mossanda Lux
- Palumba
- Wumpo Botan
Because the quantities are usually just a handful, these drops are best treated as a bonus while you’re out exploring rather than a dedicated farming plan.
How to Use Hardwood in Palworld
Hardwood matters more the closer you get to endgame. It’s required for crafting some of the strongest Pal Spheres, including Sol Spheres. If you’re working toward capturing high-level Pals, you’ll want a healthy supply of Hardwood ready.
Several older crafting categories have been updated too, with Hardwood added alongside other late-game materials. Weapons such as rifles, double-barreled shotguns, grenades, and metal bats now call for it in addition to the rest of their requirements.
Builders also rely heavily on Hardwood. It serves as the main ingredient for many Japanese-style structures added in Version 1.0, and it’s also used to craft High Quality Wooden Boards. Those boards show up in a variety of advanced crafting recipes once you reach Level 45.
How to Get Wooden Boards
Wooden Boards are another important material introduced alongside Hardwood. To unlock the recipe, reach Level 15 in the Technology Tree and research Wooden Boards. If you haven’t already unlocked Nails, you’ll need to research them first through an earlier technology tier.
Once you have the recipe, Wooden Boards can be crafted at a Primitive Workbench or any improved workbench, including the Production Assembly Line. Each board requires 10 Wood, 5 Fiber, and 1 Nail.
As the game progresses, you can also refine Hardwood into High Quality Wooden Boards. These boards replace ordinary Wood in many advanced crafting recipes. High Quality Wooden Boards require 10 Hardwood, 10 Wood, and 2 High Quality Cloth.
It’s smart to build up a stockpile of both Wooden Boards and High Quality Wooden Boards before you push into higher-level activities, since the material demands can ramp up quickly.
FAQs
Where is the best place to farm Hardwood in Palworld?
Sakurajima is generally the top recommendation. Use fast travel to reach the Secluded Cemetery waypoint, then cut down the nearby cherry blossom trees, which consistently yield Hardwood. Feybreak Island is also excellent, largely due to its large, rough-textured trees.
Can Pals farm Hardwood automatically?
Yes. After you unlock Logging Site II at Level 43, assign Pals with strong Lumbering work suitability to produce Hardwood automatically while they’re working at your base.
Does every tree drop Hardwood?
No. Only specific tree types produce Hardwood. The easiest to spot are the cherry blossom trees on Sakurajima, along with the larger, rough-looking trees found on both Sakurajima and Feybreak Island.
What is the difference between Wood and Hardwood?
Regular Wood is a staple resource for early-game crafting, while Hardwood is a late-game material used for advanced Pal Spheres, upgraded weapons, and other higher-tier items.
