Palworld 1.0 Hardwood Farming Spots: Best Locations and Danger Zones
Palworld version 1.0 is out, and with it comes a new midgame crafting resource: Hardwood. If you’re trying to keep your progress moving past level 40, knowing where to farm Hardwood matters—because the most reliable spots are also the most hazardous early on.
Checklists: Where Hardwood Shows Up in Palworld
Hardwood is a new crafting material added with Palworld 1.0, and it becomes increasingly relevant as you move through the midgame. Here are the locations players can use to gather it.
- Twilight Dunes — Cut the Mesquite trees west of the Anubis boss-fight marker.
- Dancing Sakura Shrine — Chop the Cherry Blossom trees in the hills around the Dancing Sakura Shrine.
Keep reading for the practical details on farming routes, risk level, and how to plan your first Hardwood stash.
TL;DR: How to Get Hardwood
Players have two confirmed places to farm Hardwood in Palworld: Twilight Dunes and the hills surrounding the Dancing Sakura Shrine.
Once you’re already deep into progression—specifically level 60 or above—Hardwood typically isn’t a major bottleneck. That’s because most of the new balancing changes landing with version 1.0 primarily shift how the mid- to late game plays out.
If you’re starting again on a new island, though, Hardwood starts showing up as a requirement once you reach around level 40. That includes both older gear you may already know—like the Double-barrel Shotgun—and newer items and structures introduced in the same period, such as the Metal Bat and Logging Site II.
As with other new materials, the game doesn’t do much to point you directly to where you should gather Hardwood. Sometimes it appears in merchants’ inventories at a cost of 100 gold per unit, but that method is inconsistent and not dependable.
The upside is that you don’t need to travel across the entire map to collect enough Hardwood. The downside is that the two best farming regions are in areas that can be risky if you’re a fresh level 40 character.
Where to Farm Hardwood in Palworld
The easiest place to reach is Twilight Dunes, located roughly west of the Anubis boss-fight icon on your map. This is a desert zone, and it requires heat resistance gear to avoid taking environmental damage. You’ll also run into several pals around level 30, including Dazzi.
When you arrive, use any cutting tool to harvest the mesquite trees. While not every tree seems identical, most of them should drop Hardwood along with Fiber. It can be slow, but it’s also simple to spend several in-game days clearing out enough desert to stockpile materials. Other Hardwood zones may involve tougher pals or longer travel routes.
After you unlock a Pal capable of fighting, you can also farm in the hills around Dancing Sakura Shrine. That shrine sits far to the northwest, on the same island as the Moonflower Tower. The area is packed with cherry trees, and cutting them down yields Hardwood. The local pals can be dangerous, but encounters are relatively sparse.
For planning efficiency, it’s recommended that you aim to save your first 100 Hardwood. Reaching that amount lets you craft the Logging Site II at level 43, which then produces more Hardwood over time.
Even though building Logging Site II isn’t cheap—requiring 5 Ancient Civilization Parts plus Stone and Paladium Fragments—it reduces how often you have to trek back to the best farming regions whenever you need additional Hardwood.
