Trust Is Earned Walkthrough: All Objectives and Location Tips in Black Flag Remastered

Trust is Earned is the thirty-first story mission in the main campaign of Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Remastered, and it’s also the second (and final) job inside Sequence 9. In this step of Kenway’s search, you’re trying to locate Roberts and learn more about the Observatory from him. This walkthrough covers every mission objective, along with practical ways to approach encounters—especially how to stay stealthy when things get tense.

Getting Started: Navigation and Ship Prep

Upgrade Your Ship Before You Leave

If you’ve been struggling with ship combat up to this point, it’s a good idea to strengthen your Jackdaw before you start the next voyage. For this mission, the Harbourmaster at Great Inagua had already been upgraded, and the ship loadout included:

  • Round and Heated Shot II
  • Heavy Shot I
  • Bow Chasers II
  • Barrel Launcher I
  • Mortar II
  • Swivel Guns I
  • Broadside Cannons III
  • Front Canons I
  • Ram II
  • Armored Hull II
  • Crew Quarters I
  • All storage at II

When you’re ready to begin Trust is Earned, sail to the map coordinates 939,415 on the eastern side. The spot sits along the border of Punta Guarico and Gibara. Once you arrive, interact with the location to start the mission.

You’ll then reach Principe. From there, keep sailing toward 102,38. As you near the area, you’ll be ambushed by five Portuguese ships, including Frigates, Brigs, and Cutters.

Sink Five Ships: Combat Tips for a Crowded Fight

With multiple ships surrounding you, the encounter can feel chaotic. Use the following tactics to make it more manageable:

  • Approach slowly and, if you’ve unlocked the relevant ship upgrade, use Mortars to attack from a distance. The enemy craft are tucked behind rocks, so aim at those positions.
  • Pick a side and commit instead of chasing the marker. Going head-on helps you isolate targets so you can remove threats one by one.
  • Focus on taking down Brigs, and then leave them immobilized. If you take too much damage later, you can use these ships to repair the Jackdaw more easily.
  • Brace for enemy attacks to reduce the damage you take.
  • Remember that Mortars can hit you as well. Watch for the orange circles in the water—they indicate mortar landing zones.
  • Use islands as natural barriers, keeping distance between you and the attacking ships.

Find Roberts: Stealth Routes Through Principe

After you sink the fleet, dock at Principe and head south toward the island. Before you start exploring, climb onto the boat and synchronize the viewpoint to the right first.

Once you begin moving through the area, expect bodies around you and a strong soldier presence—this island is crawling with guards.

How to Avoid Direct Combat

To reduce the amount of open fighting, take the route leading east and climb into the trees. Continue along that path until you can drop into the leaves and assassinate guards individually. Work your way east again, climb the next tree, and keep following the same pattern until you reach the camp.

From there, jump across to the beam and enter the camp. After speaking with Roberts, your next objective is to assassinate Burgess and Cockram. Start by going north from the camp toward the small fort.

Getting Into the Camp and Setting Up Burgess and Cockram

You can enter the camp fairly easily by traveling north past the gate on the right, then climbing the sandy watchtower building. Continue east and jump across branches to reach the central part of the camp.

While you’re inside, you’ll overhear guards discussing that Burgess is positioned at the docks. At the central camp, you can also collect a letter that confirms this detail.

When you’re ready to leave, sneak toward the east. If you want later collectible opportunities, the guide recommends taking the route up to the next viewpoint so you can synchronize it, then return for collectibles afterward. On the southern side, there are bushes you can use for cover, and a ramp that helps you quickly reach the gunner and take him down.

Target Movement, Rooftops, and Double-Execution Opportunities

After synchronizing the viewpoint, you’ll be able to see their ship. You can then leap down from the viewpoint into the bushes below.

Use the rooftops to move around toward the southeast. From there, you’ll spot one of the targets holding pirates captive. Watch the moment play out—then track your target as he moves further into the camp.

When he heads deeper, go through the gap in the fence toward the northeast by the buildings.

If you wait in that spot, there’s a chance both targets will come over and stand beside the building to your left. You may be able to perform a quick double assassination, or you can ignite the red barrels so the explosion hits when they reach the shack.

If you want to make the setup safer, clear out the handful of nearby soldiers first. Then you can climb onto the building and drop down to double assassinate the targets more cleanly.

Once both are dead, you’ll automatically return to Roberts. The cutscene finishes, the mission ends, and the game jumps forward to September 1719.
