Mass Effect 3 Shrike Abyssal: Prothean Obelisk Walkthrough and Rewards Guide

Travel to Widow
- Location: Serpent Nebula – Widow – Citadel – Citadel Embassies
You can begin this side mission during your very first visit to the Citadel as part of “Priority: The Citadel 1”. If you haven’t navigated to the Citadel on your own yet, it’s the galaxy’s main hub and will always be highlighted in the western portion of the Milky Way.
Meet the Diplomat
The contact you’re looking for is a Volus Diplomat. You can find him in the Citadel Embassies, standing at the eastern balcony rail. Speak with him to learn that the Vol Protectorate wants to support the “Alliance project”, but the Prothean Obelisk that could have helped was lost in the Shrike Abyssal when the Reapers arrived.
Find the Obelisk
- Prerequisite: Complete “Priority: Palaven”
- Location: The Shrike Abyssal – Urla Rast – Talis Fia
You’ll need to pause before you can progress, because the cluster containing the quest item won’t become available until you finish “Priority: Palaven”. After that prerequisite is done, head to the Shrike Abyssal, which is positioned along the northwestern edge of the Milky Way.
From there, fly west-northwest to the Urla Rast system. This jump uses roughly 220 fuel.
Once you arrive, go to Talis Fia, the second planet in the system. Use Scan to verify there’s something worth collecting, then enter the planet’s orbit. Switch to the planetary Scanner and follow the white marker displayed in the reticle to track down the Obelisk. Finally, fire a Probe to retrieve it.
While you’re in the region, you should also consider picking up some of the other Search and Rescue items available in The Shrike Abyssal.
Deliver the Obelisk
With the Prothean Obelisk in hand, return to the Diplomat in the Citadel Embassies and speak with him to confirm the item is ready. This earns you +5 Reputation and 20,000 credits. However, despite what the Diplomat’s dialogue suggests, completing this side mission does not grant TMS to any of your War Assets.
