Yangyang Xuanling Build Guide: Best Teams, Roles, and Stat Priorities

Yangyang: Xuanling is a new version of Yangyang in Wuthering Waves, but she’s more than just a reskin. She brings a completely fresh kit, including a different element and role, plus a play pattern that changes how you build and team her. If you’re coming from the original Yangyang, the upgrade is significant enough that Yangyang SP needs separate team support and stat priorities.

For builds, I’d focus on setups that raise her Heavy Attack damage—especially since her output is heavily tied to that damage type. Pairing her with characters like Chisa and Phrolova helps funnel buffs into the kind of hits she wants to spam. To make her combat leadership consistent, you’ll also want the Azure Oath sword and the Song of Feathered Trace echo set, since those tools are built to keep her damage snowballing during fights. This guide walks through what you should pull for, what to equip, and how to play her effectively once you’ve got her.

Healers in Wuthering Waves generally bring more than just recovery. When choosing one for Yangyang: Xuanling, you’ll want to evaluate their added support value beyond healing, since survivability and damage amplification often come as a package.

Yangyang Xuanling Best Teams

Most of Yangyang: Xuanling’s damage is classified as either Heavy or Havoc, so the team-building logic is pretty direct: bring characters that amplify one of those damage types, or both when possible. On top of that, she still needs a sustain support in the roster, and Shorekeeper is called out specifically to help keep the team alive while adding additional damage amplification.

  • Yangyang Xuanling Premium Team: Yangyang Xuanling + Chisa + Shorekeeper
  • Yangyang Xuanling Alternative Team: Yangyang Xuanling + Phrolova + Shorekeeper
  • Yangyang Xuanling F2P Team: Yangyang Xuanling + Mortefi/Electro Rover + Verina

Yangyang Xuanling + Chisa + Shorekeeper

In this lineup, Yangyang: Xuanling runs alongside Chisa, who’s positioned here as an outstanding Sub-DPS in WuWa. The basic flow is that Chisa and Yangyang take turns being on the field, dealing damage. Chisa can also build her Concerto energy faster than Yangyang: Xuanling, which gives Yangyang longer windows to stay active and cash in on amplified damage.

Chisa contributes more than raw damage too. She racks up Havoc Bane on enemies while shredding their DEF, giving Yangyang: Xuanling extra utility to push higher damage numbers. If you like maximizing DPS through swap-canceling, this pairing is also convenient because it creates frequent opportunities to swap between two Havoc-focused damage sources.

The rotation begins with Shorekeeper applying buffs and healing, while also filling her Concerto energy. Next, you switch to Chisa, who uses crowd control to group enemies and applies the DEF shred plus the Havoc Bane negative status. With those debuffs in place, the field is set up for Yangyang: Xuanling to spend her time dealing boosted damage.

Yangyang Xuanling + Phrolova + Shorekeeper

If you don’t want Chisa, you can swap her for Phrolova and Yangyang: Xuanling still functions as a reliable DPS in WuWa. Phrolova is described as having some of the highest damage output in the game and being flexible enough to act as the primary damage dealer or share that job with another DPS. She also has enemy control and self-buffing capabilities, effectively letting her serve as support while still hitting hard.

The key point for this specific duo is that Phrolova can boost Yangyang’s Havoc and Heavy Attack damage, which make up most of Yangyang: Xuanling’s total DPS profile. That means the team doesn’t just survive longer—it also increases the size of the hits you care about.

You can replace Shorekeeper with Verina for a more F2P-friendly version of the team. Verina functions in a similar way, though she provides slightly less healing and buffs. Even so, for survivability and amplification needs, Verina is still presented as sufficient for that support slot.

The rotation concept stays the same: start with Verina, bring Phrolova into position, and then finish the loop with Yangyang: Xuanling on the field to consume the buffs and increase her damage.

Yangyang Xuanling + Mortefi + Verina

For a Yangyang: Xuanling F2P setup, Mortefi is highlighted for his ability to greatly increase her Heavy Attack damage through his Outro Skill. He also provides many Coordinated Attacks for Heavy Attack users while using very little field time, since he fills his Concerto energy quickly. As a 4-star unit, Mortefi is also easier to build into multiple sequences that expand his utility with Heavy Attack characters, including more Coordinated Attacks and extra passive amplification.

Yangyang Xuanling Best Weapons

Azure Oath

  • 587 Base ATK
  • 24.3% Crit Rate

Azure Oath grants 12% All-Attribute damage bonus. After applying Havoc Bane, the wielder gains 36% Heavy Attack damage amplification and Heavy Attack damage ignores 12% of the target’s DEF for 8 seconds.

Azure Oath is Yangyang: Xuanling’s signature weapon and the top recommendation here. The reason is simple: as long as you can meet its condition, it’s effectively always online in combat. Since Yangyang: Xuanling’s gameplay revolves around applying Havoc Bane, she can keep Azure Oath’s effect active essentially 100% of the time during fights.

The Heavy Attack amplification is particularly valuable because most of her damage is treated as Heavy Attack damage. On top of that, the DEF ignore portion helps her punches connect harder, making the weapon especially efficient for the way she fights.

Emerald of Genesis

Emerald of Genesis increases Energy Regen by 12.8%. When a Resonance Skill is used, it increases ATK by 6%, stacking up to two times. The ATK increase lasts for 10 seconds.

Emerald of Genesis is presented as a strong F2P pick and a useful stat stick. Yangyang: Xuanling benefits from Energy Regen because her Resonance Liberation generates two Azure Plumes, letting her perform a free enhanced Heavy Attack. The Crit Rate substat also helps her build by giving more flexibility to include Crit DMG elsewhere.

Finally, because she can repeatedly cast her Resonance Skill during rotations, she can keep the two ATK% stacks from Emerald of Genesis’s passive active and maintained.

Lumingloss

  • 387 Base ATK
  • 36.4% ATK

After casting Resonance Skill, Lumingloss increases Basic Attack damage bonus and Heavy Attack damage bonus by 64%, stacking up to one time. The effect lasts 10 seconds and can be triggered once every 1 second.

With Lumingloss, Yangyang: Xuanling sacrifices a big portion of ATK% potential due to the low base ATK. Even so, she still gains a huge amount of Heavy Attack damage, which boosts the damage of her Heavy hits and keeps her output high.

Commando of Conviction

  • 412 Base ATK
  • 30.3% ATK

When the Intro Skill is used, it increases ATK by 30% for 15 seconds.

Commando of Conviction is described as straightforward and easy to use. Yangyang: Xuanling simply needs to enter the battlefield with an Intro Skill, and she gains a solid amount of ATK% from it.

Sigrika’s best build in Wuthering Waves will increase her potential as an Echo Skill DPS.

Yangyang Xuanling Best Echoes

After inflicting Havoc Bane, the Resonator gains Xuanling’s Feather, which provides a 20% Crit Rate increase and a 35% Heavy Attack damage bonus for 15 seconds.

After inflicting Glacio Chafe, the Resonator gains Chongming’s Feather, granting a 0.1% ATK increase to team Resonators for every 1% of the Resonator’s Energy Regen, up to 25%, and lasting 10 seconds.

The Song of Feathered Trace echo set gives Yangyang: Xuanling everything she needs: extra Heavy Attack damage and a Crit Rate buff. During testing, it was found that she can reliably apply Havoc Bane to trigger the set’s benefits.

Because Yangyang: Xuanling generates Azure Plumes through Resonance Liberation, Energy Regen also becomes more helpful inside her loop.

Use Echo Skill to strike nearby enemies, dealing 109.44% Havoc damage and summoning 4 Blades of Thousand Memories that persist for 15 seconds.

While Blades of Thousand Memories are active, if the Resonator applies Havoc Bane, it consumes 1 Blade to deal 41.04% Havoc damage once to the target. This can be triggered once every 1 second.

Resonators in the main slot with this Echo equipped gain 12.00% Havoc damage and 12.00% Heavy Attack damage.

Thousand-Puppet Pavilion is recommended as the main Echo for characters that heavily benefit from Havoc and Heavy Attack buffs. It also deals damage when Yangyang: Xuanling applies the Havoc Bane negative status, which she applies often through most of her attacks. The guide strongly recommends using Thousand-Puppet Pavilion as Yangyang: Xuanling’s main Echo.

How to Play Yangyang Xuanling

1. Use her Intro Skill to generate one Azure Plume.

2. Drain her Melody meter and use her Resonance Skill to generate another Azure Plume.

3. Release her enhanced Heavy Attack.

4. Cast her Resonance Liberation to generate one Azure Plume and drain her Melody meter.

5. Use her Resonance Skill again to generate another Azure Plume, then unleash another enhanced Heavy Attack.

6. After that, you can keep her on the field to generate more Azure Plumes and convert them into enhanced Heavy Attacks.

While Yangyang: Xuanling’s mechanics are described as a bit complex, the gameplay loop is still enjoyable. Her centerpiece is creating Azure Plumes so she can perform enhanced Heavy Attacks. She has two versions of enhanced Heavy Attacks depending on her stance, and you can swap between them using her Resonance Skill.

The first stance is called Azure. In this mode, Yangyang: Xuanling gathers enemies along a path before unleashing a strong Heavy Attack. The other stance is Feather, which is better for dealing with groups: she keeps collecting enemies while floating in mid-air and hits them repeatedly.

Azure Plume generation happens in several ways. A common method is to attack enemies using her Basic or Heavy Attacks to deplete her Melody meter. Since she scales extremely well with Heavy Attacks, the recommendation is to avoid relying on Basic Attacks and instead use Heavy Attacks to drain the meter. When the Melody meter is fully depleted, her Resonance Skill becomes available to generate one Azure Plume and switch stances.

There are easier Azure Plume generation methods that you’re encouraged to use more often during rotations. First, place her on the field with her Intro Skill, which instantly creates an Azure Plume and handles half the setup. The most effective method is casting Resonance Liberation, which drains Melody meter and creates an Azure Plume as part of the same action. After that, you only need to use Resonance Skill once more to obtain the second Azure Plume.

The suggested best practice is: start by using her Intro Skill to bring her in, then use Heavy Attacks and Resonance Skill to prime the enhanced Heavy Attack, and follow up with Resonance Liberation and Skill afterward so another enhanced Heavy Attack is ready quickly. Once you’ve done that, you can rely on the basic “deplete Melody meter through attacks” approach as long as you want her to remain on the field.

Yangyang Xuanling Best Resonance Chains

This section reviews every Yangyang: Xuanling sequence and assigns a rating. The meanings are as follows: Negligible means the sequence barely contributes and is better skipped. Low slightly improves her, but it’s not recommended. Medium isn’t very important unless it helps you reach a stronger chain. High is a noticeable improvement but not a milestone. Priority provides a major enhancement and is worth aiming for as a milestone when building toward it.

  1. Negligible: The sequence barely adds anything to the character. It’s better to skip it.
  2. Low: The sequence slightly improves the character. I don’t recommend it.
  3. Medium: The sequence is not that important, unless you’re using it as a stepping stone toward a better sequence.
  4. High: The sequence notably improves the character. Still, not worth being a milestone.
  5. Priority: The sequence greatly enhances the character. It’s worth prioritizing as a milestone if you’re building toward that sequence.

• Reset the cooldown of gaining Bated Breath and Streaming Storm.

S3 – My Grief Follows You into the Clouds

Damage dealt through Resonance Liberation Hush of a Thousand Voices is amplified by 175%.

S6 – Let the Azure Keep Its Light

When Yangyang: Xuanling inflicts Havoc Bane on a target, she gains Voice Flux for 30 seconds. While Voice Flux is active, her Heavy Attack damage increases by 40%.

Casting Resonance Skill – Sword Stance Flow: Azure or Resonance Skill – Sword Stance Flow: Feather grants Still as Withered Wood for 30 seconds. While Still as Withered Wood is active, if Yangyang: Xuanling is on the field, then when nearby Resonators in the team inflict Glacio Chafe, Fusion Burst, Electro Flare, Aero Erosion, Spectro Frazzle, or Havoc Bane, Yangyang: Xuanling summons Shadow of Xuanling: Still as Withered Wood to attack the target, dealing Havoc damage equal to 337.98% of Yangyang: Xuanling’s ATK.

The damage from Shadow of Xuanling: Still as Withered Wood counts as Heavy Attack damage and is guaranteed to be a critical hit.

Shadow of Xuanling: Still as Withered Wood can be summoned once every 1 second, and Still as Withered Wood ends after it has been used 5 times. Once Still as Withered Wood expires or is removed, the summon charges reset. Still as Withered Wood has a 25-second cooldown.
