Black Ops Zombies Origins: How to Build and Upgrade the Fire Staff
If you’re jumping into Black Ops 2 or Black Ops 3, there’s a good chance you’ve already tried (or plan to try) Origins, especially because its Zombies content is considered top-tier. But returning to the map means remembering how to assemble every staff—right down to the Fire Staff. This guide walks you through both building and upgrading it, so you don’t get derailed by missing locations or puzzle steps.
Here’s a walkthrough for completing the Little Lost Girl easter egg in Origins, whether you’re tackling it solo or with co-op partners, with each stage explained clearly.
How to Build the Fire Staff in Origins
Step #1: Obtain the Red Disc
- It can be found between the tank and the stairs beneath the Church.
- It can be found on a wooden bench inside the Church, positioned to the left of the water basin.
- It can be found on a crate to the left of Generator 6 inside the Church.
Step #2: Get the Three Staff Parts
To get the first Fire Staff component, clear debris near the Church. Once it’s opened up, look upward—you’ll spot a glowing aircraft. Shoot it down using any firearm, then collect the part from the ground around the Excavation Site.
The second component is obtained by turning on Generator 6, which you can reach through the Church. The moment Generator 6 is activated, look to the left to find a challenge chest. The Fire Staff part will be waiting inside.
The third part drops from the Panzersoldat, the special enemy that shows up on Round 8. After you defeat the Panzer, the part will be located where its body falls.
Step #3: Acquire the Fire Staff Crystal & Build the Staff
With all three components collected—plus the red disc—you’ll need to head to the Fire Tunnel. This tunnel is outside Generator 1, stretching toward Generator 3 through the trenches. Place the gramophone here to access the Crazy Place, then grab a red crystal from the red pillar.
Once you have that crystal, go to the Pack-a-Punch area. Descend the stairs to find four statues. You can craft the Fire Staff at the statue on the right that has the red base, and that’s how you obtain the Fire Staff.
How to Upgrade the Fire Staff in Origins
Step #1: Light the Bonfires in the Crazy Place
Return to the Crazy Place while holding your Fire Staff. In the corner near the red platform, you’ll see four braziers that aren’t lit yet, along with grates you can stand on. While standing on the grates, use the Fire Staff to rack up roughly 30 kills. That amount should be enough to ignite all four bonfires. After every bonfire is lit, you can exit the Crazy Place.
Step #2: Solve the Fire Staff Puzzle in the Church
Go upstairs in the Church. On the rear wall, you’ll see four glowing symbols. Each one corresponds to a number, and you can use the image shown above to match symbols to their translated numbers.
The symbol labeled as “4” is actually a bloodstain.
Once you’ve identified the four numbers, head back downstairs in the Church by the tank. Around the walls, there are unlit torches with numbers under them. Your job is to fire the Fire Staff at the torches that match your symbol-to-number results, doing it rapidly in sequence.
If you complete it correctly, a beam of light will travel toward Pack-a-Punch, and the torches will stay lit. If you mess up, just run the sequence again—this time, focus carefully on what each symbol translates to before firing.
Step #3: Shoot the Red Orb
Head back to Pack-a-Punch and go down the stairs to where you built the Fire Staff. Above, you’ll see four colored dial sections. Around the scaffolding, interact with four levers, one at a time, until every dial symbol turns red. After all four are red, use the Fire Staff to shoot the red orb located at the bottom of the dials. This sends the orb to the Crazy Place.
Step #4: Feed the Fire Staff Zombie Souls
Now return to the Crazy Place and place the Fire Staff into the red podium, in the spot where you originally collected the red crystal. In this zone, you’ll need to earn 20 zombie kills. After that, the zombies’ souls will power the Fire Staff. Once you’ve reached around 20 kills, pick up the Fire Staff again—it will now be renamed Kagutsuchi’s Blood.
Is the Fire Staff the Best Staff in Origins?
No—the Fire Staff is not the best staff in Origins. In fact, it’s commonly considered the worst staff.
If you’re playing co-op and someone is relying on the Fire Staff, it’s usually because they don’t plan to depend on the wonder weapon, or because the team doesn’t really care about optimal loadouts.
The Fire Staff is also known for being extremely buggy. If you repeatedly fire it into a large group of zombies, the elemental effects can stack in a way that may cause the game to crash. That said, it performs moderately well for single-target damage, so it can be decent against Panzersoldat enemies. Still, unless you specifically need it for the easter egg, it generally isn’t worth using over other options.
