Release timing, platforms, and what was shown before launch
Digimon Up was first unveiled in March 2026 during the Digimon Con 2026 global broadcast. A trailer framed the mobile adventure as something that “moves” alongside each player’s everyday routine. Visually, the title is described as using detailed 2D sprites for a wide range of Digimon characters, including both monsters and tamers.
For platforms, it launches as a free-to-play game on Android and iOS. On iPhone, the requirement is an Apple device capable of running iOS 15 or later.
Before the July launch confirmation, a new teaser for an upcoming Dragon Ball release also surfaced online, flagged by franchise fans.
Digimon Up finally arrives on July 15
After the game’s initial reveal, Bandai Namco confirmed that Digimon Up wouldn’t be far off. Producer Kimi-P shared a social video stating that the game would launch in Japan on Wednesday, July 15. Depending on local time zones, players outside Japan may be able to start earlier—potentially as soon as Tuesday, July 14.
To help players get ready, a pre-registration campaign is running now on both the Apple App Store and Google Play Store. Kimi-P also said that if Digimon Up hits one million pre-registrations, players will receive a gift featuring Taichi Yagami (Tai Kamiya) and Agumon from the classic Digimon Adventure anime.
As of the time of reporting, multiple pre-registration incentives have already been reached. These include in-game currencies such as Bits and Summon Tickets. There is also a partner reward available for free: Gekkomon from the Digimon Beatbreak anime. Since Digimon Up is free-to-play, it remains unclear what form any microtransactions will take in the final product.
The pre-registration period will run until the game’s launch. At the time of writing, interested players have roughly one week left to reach the remaining milestone needed to claim the Tai and Agumon reward.
Gameplay customization is also part of the pitch. In Digimon Up, players will be able to personalize their tamer avatar and choose one of 15 Rookie-level monsters as a first partner. The initial roster includes options like Agumon, Veemon, and Guilmon, alongside other companion Digimon expected by long-time series fans.
In addition to partner selection, there will be gear options for customizing the player’s tamer avatar. The exact details of what those gear choices will be have not been fully revealed yet.
However, Digimon Up isn’t the only franchise release planned for July. Beginning July 10, Digimon Story: Time Stranger will launch on Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch consoles. The Nintendo release will include the base game as well as all currently available DLC.
There’s also an update planned for other platforms: a patch for the PS5 and Xbox Series X/S versions of Time Stranger is expected in the days ahead, adding Performance Mode and Quality Mode frame rate options.
