Marvel Tōkon Fighting Souls Adds Final 3 Characters, Including PS Cameo

Marvel Tōkon: Fighting Souls just wrapped up its roster reveal with three final fighters, including fan-requested characters and a playful cameo from a very recognizable PlayStation marketing face.

Samurai Outriders completes the roster

The fifth tag fighting entry from Arc System Works is titled Samurai Outriders. The team combines the previously revealed Ghost Rider with three additional playable characters: Blade, Deadpool, and Loki.

  • Previously announced member: Ghost Rider
  • New playable characters: Blade, Deadpool, Loki

Deadpool’s trailer is packed with references

The Deadpool segment, voiced by Nolan North, stands out for how heavily it leans into easter eggs and recognizable fighting-game moves. In the clip, Deadpool performs his own take on Mortal Kombat’s “Toasty!”, executes Johnny Cage’s signature “Ball Buster,” and even busts out a “Jack-O’-Pose” inspired by Arc System Works’ Guilty Gear series.

There’s also a wink to a long-running fan idea that the team might be called Midnight Sons. Even if that name didn’t stick, the trailer makes sure the expectation doesn’t go unnoticed.

One moment is so quick it’s easy to miss: a brief hit sequence featuring Polygon Man from PlayStation. At the 1:43 mark, Deadpool uses an attack he calls “random bulls**t go!” and repeatedly tags his opponent with Polygon Man’s distinctive geometric head.

Polygon Man, for context, is a giant purple floating face constructed from geometric shapes. He originally served as a marketing character and intended mascot for Sony’s PlayStation brand in North America back in 1995, before being dropped. The character later returned as the main antagonist and final boss in the 2012 crossover fighter PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale.

With that in mind, it’s hard not to wonder whether Marvel Tōkon: Fighting Souls is connected to the same broader universe as PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale—especially since Dante from Devil May Cry appears in that title too. The crossover energy is certainly there, even if it’s presented as a playful nod rather than a confirmed shared setting.

Release details, beta dates, and what to expect

Deadpool’s inclusion is likely to be a major draw for players, not only because Nolan North is returning to voice him, but because the character’s personality is typically built around dialogue-heavy moments and breaking the fourth wall. The trailer hints at this with character-specific banter—Wolverine is one example—and it looks like the team is leaning into Deadpool’s meta-comedy style.

Marvel Tōkon: Fighting Souls is a PlayStation-published game launching on PlayStation 5 and PC on August 6, 2026. Ahead of release, Sony has also announced an open beta for PS5 and PC running from 24 to 26 July, giving everyone a chance to try the game before it officially launches.
