Black Ops 6 Leaves Call of Duty HQ on July 7 in Major Update
Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 is set to break away into its own standalone release on July 7. In practical terms, Activision is splitting the shooter from the controversial Call of Duty HQ launcher, which has been the only route to play Black Ops 6 since the game’s launch in October 2024.
Release update: Black Ops 6 moves out of Call of Duty HQ on July 7
| Item | Detail |

| When the change happens | July 7 at 9 a.m. PT |
| What’s changing | Black Ops 6 becomes a standalone installation instead of being accessed through Call of Duty HQ |

Activision rolled out Call of Duty HQ in November 2023 as a single hub intended to consolidate the franchise. The idea was that players could jump between recent mainline releases and the free-to-play battle royale Warzone from one launcher, with the company positioning the app as a cleaner way to swap between games and manage downloads and files.
That pitch didn’t land cleanly with everyone. The unified approach sparked complaints about added installation friction, very large download sizes, and the way new entries could get tucked away inside a larger central hub rather than feeling immediately accessible. Activision started backing away from parts of the setup in 2025, including removing Modern Warfare 2 and Modern Warfare 3 from Call of Duty HQ.
Black Ops 6 Is Leaving Call of Duty HQ on July 7
Black Ops 6 is now following that same path. Activision says the October 2024 release will depart the main Call of Duty installation and switch to a standalone download on July 7. The move is scheduled for 9 a.m. PT.
After the change, players won’t need to route through the hub anymore. Instead, they’ll be able to launch the game directly once they redownload the standalone version. Activision also notes that older content linked to Black Ops 6 modes inside the primary install will be removed automatically, with the goal of freeing storage space.
