Boruto: Two Blue Vortex Brings Back Hashirama’s Legacy With a New Successor
Hashirama Senju, the legendary First Hokage of Konoha, first made his mark in the Naruto story during the Konoha Crush Arc—specifically in Chapter 118, released on April 22, 2002. With roughly 24 years now passed since that introduction, the myth around him has only grown larger. In the later half of Naruto, Hashirama’s reputation as the “God of Shinobi” kept expanding, especially due to his distinctive mastery of Wood Release. Plenty of Shinobi can boast rare bloodline abilities, but Wood Release has historically been far less common—so scarce that its existence feels almost like a storybook anomaly.
In fact, Hashirama was the only person naturally born with this power, and its sheer usefulness became a target of desire even after his death. One of the people most interested in replicating it was his longtime rival, Madara Uchiha. Hashirama has been gone for ages, but now Boruto: Two Blue Vortex is officially moving his legacy forward by adding a new Wood Release user. After decades without a natural wielder, Konoha has a fresh one in the form of Moegi Kazamatsuri, who is now confirmed to command this uniquely rare Kekkei Genkai herself.
Moegi Kazamatsuri Is Officially Confirmed To Be The Successor Of Hashirama As The New Wood Release User In Boruto Volume 4
Wood Release traces back to a special “DNA anomaly” tied to Hashirama Senju. It lets him merge Earth Release and Water Release into a variety of living forms and gives him the ability to manipulate wooden structures found in the natural world. On paper, it’s already an extreme power set—covering massive defensive strength, reshaping terrain through techniques such as Deep Forest Emergence, and even enabling the absorption of chakra from Tailed Beasts. It doesn’t stop there either: Wood Release can also take in chakra from other individuals present within the Naruto setting. Those traits are exactly why Wood Release stands out so much as a Kekkei Genkai, and why figures like Madara Uchiha—and even Konoha—spent time trying to reproduce it through multiple attempts.
Most of Konoha’s experimental efforts ultimately failed. What’s different in the Boruto era is that the village has finally produced a Wood Release user naturally, rather than through artificial means. That breakthrough belongs to Moegi Kazamatsuri. In the official release for Boruto Volume 4, Mikio Ikemoto and Masashi Kishimoto confirm that Moegi is a Wood Release user.
Moegi Kazamatsuri’s attributes include:
Ninja Arts: Wood Release: Green-Hued Jutsu, Wood Release: Vegetation Barrier, Sensory Perception.

If you’re forgetting where Moegi fits in, she previously appeared as a Genin who would tag along with Konohamaru Sarutobi in Naruto. Now, in the Boruto era, she’s fully established as a Jonin and one of the series’ stronger combatants. She currently leads Team 10, and it’s easy to see why Konoha leans on her with that kind of responsibility. With Wood Release in her hands—one of the rarest and most dangerous abilities in the world—fans should be eager to see what she can actually do as Boruto: Two Blue Vortex pushes deeper into its Shinju-focused arcs.
Naruto, meanwhile, has been weakened—so even with his connection to Konoha’s greatest heroes, he isn’t positioned as the village’s top-tier fighter right now.
Why Moegi Could Be Connected To The Senju Clan
Even with her Wood Release confirmed in Boruto Volume 4, the story still hasn’t explained how Moegi gained access to it. The key detail is that Moegi awakened this power naturally, unlike Yamato, who was created as an experiment using Hashirama’s DNA. Because Moegi is a genuine natural Wood Release wielder, it raises the possibility that she has ties to the Senju clan. After all, Hashirama is the only known person to possess this Kekkei Genkai, and he was a Senju himself. In other words, Moegi could be directly connected to the Senju line—or potentially even born from a branch family within the Senju clan structure.
“He was Senju “Wood Release” Hashirama. He was the man who stood atop the Ninja World, and the man that I respected the most.” — Madara Uchiha on Wood Release, Naruto Chapter 398
The series likely won’t answer this mystery immediately. Still, a blood link between Moegi and Konoha’s First Hokage—who died at an undisclosed point in time—seems plausible. If Moegi truly is connected to the Senju, it could also help explain why her chakra might be notably strong. The Naruto series states that the Senju clan is associated with large chakra reserves and exceptional vitality. With that kind of foundation, Moegi could end up ranked among Konoha’s most powerful Jonin in the current period—something that naturally makes fans excited about what her future fights might look like.

Moegi’s Wood Release Jutsu Include Green Hued Jutsu And Vegetation Jutsu
Unfortunately, Boruto: Two Blue Vortex hasn’t yet handed Moegi a chance to showcase her fighting style in action. Even so, the official volume information does specify that she uses two particular wood-style techniques.
-
The Green-Hued jutsu: The exact effects aren’t provided, but the wording strongly suggests it spreads greenery in some manner—whether through plant growth, living vegetation, or even spore-like tactics that can interfere with or paralyze an opponent.
-
The Vegetation jutsu: As the name implies, it allows Moegi to generate vegetation around her. It’s also described as one of the more basic Wood Release techniques—something Hashirama Senju used on multiple occasions.
“Wood Dragon can absorb all the chakra from you. It’ll leave your ninjutsu absorbing ninjutsu completely meaningless!” — Hashirama Senju explains his Wood Release techniques during the Ninja War
With abilities like these, Moegi looks like a serious threat. Fans are likely waiting for the moment Boruto: Two Blue Vortex finally gives her the spotlight and shows what she can do when she’s allowed to shine. With two remaining Shinju—Hidari and Jura—still in play, and their storyline being addressed as early as Boruto: Two Blue Vortex Chapter 35 on June 18, 2026, Moegi has plenty of opportunities to show up in battles. After the Shinju’s fall, there’s also the looming threat of Code, along with the possibility that Akebi could be reborn as an Otsutsuki. Taken together, that sets up more chances for Moegi to demonstrate her Wood Release capabilities and further solidify her position as the true successor to First Hokage Hashirama Senju.
