Release window, platforms, and how to listen
Dwango has not announced a specific launch date beyond fall 2026. Instead, the plan is to tide fans over with a series of singles released during the summer, leading into the full EP.
| Project | Type | Key dates | Lead performer |
|---|---|---|---|
| BEYOND BORDERS Vol.1: EMERGE MODE MIKU | Collaboration EP | Singles in summer; EP in fall 2026 (no exact day yet) | Hatsune Miku |
The “Beyond Borders” concept is being driven by Dwango, with the stated goal of introducing Vocaloid music to a new generation of global listeners. The EP’s artist lineup and the official trailer were presented during Anime Expo, signaling the project’s anime-adjacent, community-forward roots as it aims to expand beyond its original fanbase.
To help push the release into the US market, Dwango is collaborating with Nebula17 through their US Label. Across the entire tracklist, Hatsune Miku will serve as the lead vocalist, with songs spanning multiple genres—ranging from electronic and alternative to hyperpop, rap, and experimental styles.
Beyond the headline collaborations, the EP is also backed by a roster of high-profile producers and songwriters. Producers named for the project include Grant Boutin (associated with Tate McRae), VADAKIN (associated with Grimes), MOMBRU (associated with Fridayy), Byrd (associated with Bad Bunny), Xansei (associated with XG). On the songwriting side, contributions include Charles “Scoot” Anderson (associated with Ariana Grande) and Cecile Believe (associated with Charli xcx).
The team also includes notable Japanese Vocaloid producers jon-Yakitori, SatapanP, and picco, reinforcing the project’s bridge between domestic Vocaloid creators and globally recognized pop and electronic talent.
Dwango’s team framed the release as more than just a crossover: it’s positioned as a continuation of Vocaloid culture’s growth from a homegrown Japanese phenomenon into an international form of expression. Gorokiyotake Orimoto, General Manager at Dwango, said: “Vocaloid culture was born in Japan from the passion of producers making music in their own bedrooms and on their own desktops, and now it’s taking flight on the global stage. Watching it grow into this new form of expression through collaborations with world-renowned artists has been an honor, and we’re deeply grateful to everyone whose support made this milestone possible.”
As summer singles roll out ahead of the full EP, BEYOND BORDERS Vol.1: EMERGE MODE MIKU is shaping up to be a major landmark for Vocaloid’s crossover push—one that leans heavily into the same community energy that often powers anime music, rhythm-game tracks, and internet-driven fandom.
