Tottenham Stand by Roberto De Zerbi Despite Winless Premier League Start
Tottenham Hotspur have no intention of replacing Roberto De Zerbi despite beginning the Premier League season without a win in six matches, with the club’s senior figures still committed to the Italian and the longer-term rebuild around him.
Spurs’ difficult opening has brought early pressure after a substantial summer of recruitment, but there is no appetite within the club for an immediate change in the dugout. The view is that De Zerbi needs time to establish his approach with a reshaped group and allow the new arrivals to settle.
Board remain committed to De Zerbi project
Tottenham believe their performances and results will improve once the side develops greater consistency. The club remain convinced that De Zerbi is the right head coach to lead the project, despite an opening sequence that has left them searching for their first league victory.
De Zerbi is understood to be comfortable in his position and fully focused on the task at hand. There are no indications that the former Brighton manager is considering leaving the role amid the early-season difficulties.
The club’s leadership accept that the current position falls short of expectations following the summer window. Nevertheless, they do not see six winless league games as reason to abandon the work undertaken since the end of last season.
Survival work remains a factor
De Zerbi arrived in north London late in March last season with Tottenham involved in a battle to remain in the Premier League. With little time to introduce his methods, he guided the team to safety and gave the club the platform to plan for a rebuild over the summer.
That contribution remains important in Tottenham’s assessment of his tenure. The hierarchy have not overlooked the circumstances he inherited or the role he played in securing top-flight survival during a difficult campaign.
Summer investment strengthens case for patience
Tottenham spent heavily on new players during the close season in an attempt to address weaknesses across the squad. The club do not want to interrupt that process while De Zerbi is still integrating the players brought in to support his plans.
Replacing the manager now would risk undermining the work carried out during the window, and Spurs believe continuity offers the best chance of turning the investment into improved displays and results.
For now, the message is that De Zerbi will receive the backing and time required to make the revamped squad work. Tottenham expect the team’s form to recover as his ideas take hold and the group becomes more settled.
