Rudi Voller confirms Germany squad reduction under Jurgen Klopp in November
Germany will move away from Jurgen Klopp’s expanded 44-player pool in November, with sporting director Rudi Voller confirming that the national side will then work with a substantially smaller squad.
Klopp’s initial assessment period
- Klopp began his Germany tenure by selecting 44 players and dividing them into two groups for four Nations League matches.
- The arrangement consisted of an initial 24-man squad followed by a 20-player selection, allowing the new staff to assess a broad range of options before committing to a settled core.
- Voller described the unusually large call-up as a temporary step intended to help Klopp and his coaching team through their early transition.
- The sporting director said November would mark the change, stating: “November is when it counts. Then we will see Jurgen’s condensed squad. There won’t be 44 players invited anymore.”
Germany’s hierarchy has also made clear that the current group should not be regarded as final. Players outside the first selections, including Angelo Stiller, Deniz Undav, Maximilian Beier and Leroy Sane, remain in contention for future call-ups.
No special case for omitted players
Voller indicated that established internationals left out of the initial group will not receive individual assurances or detailed explanations. He said omissions are part of elite football and that players must respond by proving themselves.
That approach leaves the coming games as an important opportunity for those on the fringes, while also increasing the pressure on Klopp to identify the players around whom his side will be built.
Serbia and Greece tests ahead
