Robin Fellhauer Sets Bundesliga Fastest-Goal Record Against Bayern Munich
Fellhauer struck after just 8.37 seconds as Bayern Munich were held to a chaotic 2-2 Bundesliga draw, setting a new mark for the fastest goal in the competition’s history.
The midfielder pounced immediately after kick-off when Bayern created their own problems with a misplaced pass backwards. Their defence was put under pressure inside the area and the goalkeeper’s attempted clearance was blocked by Fellhauer, who rolled the loose ball into an unguarded net.
It took an early stoppage in play for Fellhauer to understand the scale of what he had done. He said team-mate Gregor approached him during the break in the action to congratulate him and jokingly tell him that he would be paying for the drinks, making clear that a record had fallen.
A Bundesliga record at 8.37 seconds
The previous fastest Bundesliga goal had stood at nine seconds, a time jointly held by Karim Bellarabi and Kevin Volland following their strikes in 2014 and 2015.
Fellhauer said the significance of the moment began to register only after the final whistle. He described it as an extraordinary feeling to be placed in the league’s record books and suggested the new benchmark could prove difficult to surpass.
Bayern lose ground despite draw
The result denied Vincent Kompany’s Bayern the opportunity to reduce the distance to Borussia Dortmund in second place. Dortmund have 13 points, while Bayern sit two points behind after collecting 11 from their first five league matches.
Bayern’s early defensive mistake proved especially costly in a match that finished level, and the lapse offers a concern as their domestic programme and European commitments become increasingly demanding.
