Neto wants more success at Stamford Bridge

The winger said the extension was an “unbelievable moment” in both his football career and personal life. Neto believes Chelsea can continue to build on their recent success and said he already feels settled at the club.

“I feel at home here,” Neto said. “I feel like I want to achieve more things here. I’m really excited because I think we can achieve a lot of things together.”

Chelsea have been working through first-team agreements with the aim of recognising players whose performances have earned revised contracts. Striker Joao Pedro agreed improved conditions last month, while captain Reece James signed fresh terms in March and midfielder Moises Caicedo followed in April.

Neto had attracted interest during the latest transfer window, with Manchester City among the Premier League clubs linked with monitoring his position. He remained in west London, however, and his standing has grown under Alonso.

Alonso values Neto’s work at both ends

Alonso has used Neto in a role that can resemble either a conventional winger or a wing-back, requiring him to offer a threat near the opposition penalty area while also contributing defensively. Before Saturday’s match against Hull City, the Chelsea manager highlighted the range of the Portuguese player’s game.

“For me, he is a winger,” Alonso said. “You can call him a winger or a wing-back because he has many qualities. He can play on the last line and he can defend on the first line, so he has the capacity to do many things. He is good in one-on-one situations, he is scoring goals and he has a fantastic work rate.”

The manager also pointed to Neto’s links with team-mates and his willingness to compete, qualities Alonso had noticed while watching Chelsea before taking charge. “He connects very well with the players around him,” he said. “With him, you know that he is going to compete and you want those kinds of players in your team. I am very happy with Pedro and the work he is doing.”
