Patrick Dorgu Stars With Assist in Manchester United’s 4-0 Sabah Win
Patrick Dorgu marked his first UEFA Champions League appearance with an assist and a clean sheet as Manchester United beat Sabah 4-0 at Old Trafford.
The Danish full-back started at left-back while Luke Shaw was rested, contributing at both ends in a comfortable European win for Michael Carrick’s side. Dorgu supplied the opening goal with a low delivery towards the near post, allowing Matheus Cunha to put United ahead.

Bruno Fernandes, Benjamin Sesko and Lisandro Martinez added the remaining goals as United pulled clear of the Azerbaijani visitors. The result delivered three points and, just as importantly for the home side, a first shut-out of the campaign.
Dorgu said the occasion had been a special one after his first experience of Champions League football. He also pointed to the Old Trafford crowd and the overall level of the performance.
“It’s my first Champions League appearance, so it’s an incredible feeling,” Dorgu said. “The atmosphere was amazing. I’m thankful to have the opportunity to play in this competition, and I’m really happy with my performance and the team’s performance as well.”
The clean sheet carried particular value after recent domestic matches in which United had conceded regularly. Dorgu said the defensive result would help goalkeeper Senne Lammens as well as those playing in front of him.
“Getting the three points was really important, as was the clean sheet, because we’ve let in a lot of goals lately,” he said. “It gives the whole defence and Senne in goal confidence.”
United now turn towards Sunday’s Manchester derby against City, who lead the Premier League. Dorgu believes the Sabah victory can offer a useful platform before a significantly tougher test.
“It gives us confidence for the derby at the weekend and for the games ahead as well,” he said.
