Manchester United Handle JJ Gabriel’s Rise After Youth League Hat-Trick
Manchester United are managing JJ Gabriel’s progression carefully after the 15-year-old forward marked his UEFA Youth League debut with a hat-trick in Thursday’s 5-0 win over Sabah in Leigh.

Lawrence said Gabriel has strong connections with staff and fellow players after a long time in the academy, while senior figures throughout the club believe in his potential. He added that the planning around Gabriel’s matches and training is intended to keep him enjoying his football in the right environment.

Lawrence stressed that creative players must retain the freedom to influence matches, but also need to develop their work without the ball. Gabriel is being asked to improve his pressing and wider defensive responsibilities while continuing to link play in attacking areas.
The coach said his responsibility is to avoid damaging the player’s development. He described Gabriel as a demanding but rewarding talent to coach, saying that the strongest young players require individual solutions which allow them to improve and flourish.
Gabriel’s profile has grown quickly even before a competitive first-team debut, with 840,000 Instagram followers. United’s approach, however, remains centred on development rather than setting a timetable for his senior bow.
