Luis de la Fuente Signs Spain Contract Extension Until 2032
Spain have tied Luis de la Fuente to a new contract through 2032, handing the 65-year-old six further years in charge of the senior national team after a meeting at Ciudad del Fútbol in Las Rozas.
Why the long-term agreement matters
The deal gives Spain continuity across three of the biggest tournaments in the international calendar: the European Championships in 2028 and 2032, plus the 2030 World Cup, which Spain will stage jointly with Portugal and Morocco.

The federation has described the extension as a commitment through the next two Euros and the 2030 finals. Keeping De la Fuente in place for the home World Cup is central to that plan, with Spain seeking to preserve the momentum created by their recent World Cup triumph and continue their Nations League title defence.
De la Fuente arrived in the senior role following a decade coaching within Spain’s youth set-up. That background has helped create a direct route for emerging players into the first team, while the new contract gives his staff time to oversee the next group coming through the Under-21 ranks.
RFEF board chairman Rafael Louzán said the agreement reflected De la Fuente’s record and his long service to the organisation. Louzán called him Spain’s most successful national-team coach and said a lasting future with the federation was deserved after 14 years of work.
The coach has won every major trophy available during his senior tenure, and the federation believes the extended arrangement removes uncertainty around the position as Spain prepare for the next cycle of international competition.
September and October schedule
De la Fuente’s immediate focus will be Spain’s forthcoming international fixtures. The world champions travel to London to meet England on September 26 in their first match since the summer’s World Cup success. They then face the Czech Republic in Oviedo on October 3 before ending the window with an away fixture against Croatia.
