Luis Díaz targets Champions League glory after Bayern Munich treble

Luis Díaz has set his sights on Champions League success with Bayern Munich after a first season in which he helped deliver all three major domestic German trophies. The 29-year-old winger, who joined from Liverpool for €75 million in the summer of 2025, has made an immediate impact in Bavaria with 26 goals and 23 assists.

A rapid Bayern impact

Díaz has described Bayern as a club that brought him happiness from the moment the move became possible, and said that feeling has remained since his arrival at the Allianz Arena.

The Colombia international credited the welcome from both the squad and coaching staff for helping him settle swiftly. Being treated as though he had long belonged within the group, he said, made the adjustment to a new league and country far easier.

His individual production has also been rooted in Bayern’s collective play. Díaz believes that when the team functions properly, attacking players are better placed to flourish.

European target remains unfinished

For all the domestic success, Bayern’s campaign ended in Champions League disappointment when Paris Saint-Germain won their semi-final 6-5 on aggregate. That defeat remains the major missing element in Díaz’s first year with the club.

The winger has made clear that Bayern cannot rely on last season’s achievements. In his view, previous success will quickly lose significance unless the side can repeat it or improve on it during the current campaign.

Díaz wants Bayern to compete fully on every front, with European silverware now the principal ambition. The club began its latest Champions League league-phase campaign in emphatic fashion, beating Bodo/Glimt 5-0.

Kompany’s demands and the domestic position

Díaz has highlighted the balance in Vincent Kompany’s approach. Bayern’s forwards are allowed room to express themselves in attack, provided they continue to fulfil their positional responsibilities.

That freedom comes with a clear defensive obligation. Kompany expects the entire side to work without the ball, keep sound defensive positions and defend as a unit.

Bayern return from the international break on October 10, when Kompany’s side travel to Augsburg. Díaz will be aiming to maintain his strong start while helping turn Bayern’s domestic authority into a sustained challenge for the Champions League.
