Leeds established control from the opening stages, pressing with enough force and speed to unsettle Matthias Jaissle’s team. Their opener came with a degree of fortune as Ao Tanaka’s effort took deflections from Sean Steur and Lewis Miley before looping beyond goalkeeper Lukas Hornicek.

Newcastle remained under pressure after the restart as Leeds continued to set the pace. Their fourth arrived from Ethan Ampadu’s long throw, with the loose ball dropping for Okafor to strike a half-volley into the far corner via the post.
Bazoumana Toure scored a late Newcastle consolation after taking advantage of a Leeds defensive error, but it did little to alter the direction of a match in which the home side were sharper and more assertive throughout.
