Former Fulham Star Tips Josh King for Future Move to Boost England Hopes
Fulham teenager Josh King has moved rapidly from academy prospect to established first-team option, and the 19-year-old’s progress has prompted fresh discussion over his England prospects and long-term future at Craven Cottage.

King, a product of Fulham’s Craven Cottage academy, has become a regular presence in west London since making his senior bow in August 2024. His performances have helped him move ahead of former Arsenal midfielder Emile Smith Rowe in the attacking midfield competition, while his tally of three league goals has underlined his increasing influence.
The Kingston-born player has attracted attention for his speed, ability to carry the ball and creative work between the lines. He has also been part of an England training camp ahead of the 2026 World Cup, providing an early exposure to the senior international set-up.
Former Fulham player Houghton believes King has the tools to follow the development paths of English attacking midfielders such as Cole Palmer, Morgan Rogers and Morgan Gibbs-White, although he stressed that the teenager’s next steps will be important.
“I think so,” Houghton said when asked whether King could reach that level. “The better players he plays with, the higher he goes, the better he will become.”
Houghton highlighted King’s pace, dribbling, vision and finishing, describing him as a player with the attributes required in attack. He also urged caution around the attention now surrounding the youngster, saying that maintaining focus will be essential if he is to fulfil his potential and compete for major honours.
England’s No. 10 pool is already crowded, with Phil Foden, Eberechi Eze and Jude Bellingham among the leading options. King has considerable ground to make up before being placed in that company, but his club trajectory has made him one of the more closely watched young English players.
A major transfer has been suggested as a possible future development, though Fulham are not compelled to sell. King is under contract until 2029 and has previously spoken of his ambition to become a “legend” at the club.
Another former Fulham forward, Bobby Zamora, praised King’s willingness to demand possession and make things happen in decisive areas. Zamora said the key question would eventually be which club could offer the next stage of his career, while adding that he would prefer leading English talents to remain in the Premier League rather than move abroad.
For now, Fulham have both a talented young playmaker and the contractual security to manage his development on their own terms. King’s challenge is to build on an impressive start, keep his place in the side and turn potential into sustained Premier League output.
