Fabian Ruiz Cites World Cup and Champions League Wins in Ballon d’Or Bid
Fabian Ruiz believes his World Cup and Champions League triumphs place him firmly in the Ballon d’Or discussion, even after a season interrupted by a three-month knee injury.
The Paris Saint-Germain and Spain midfielder has pointed to the weight of his collective honours, arguing that no rival can match his haul of major trophies over the campaign. Ruiz accepts that several leading individuals have produced outstanding seasons, including Barcelona teenager Lamine Yamal, but feels a World Cup remains football’s greatest prize.
Ruiz makes his case

Midfield recognition remains a theme
Ruiz finished 24th in last year’s Ballon d’Or voting and was among the 30 nominees. He said his position in this year’s race would ultimately be decided by the voters, while stressing that his first responsibility is to serve the team.
“It is an honour simply to be included among the 30,” Ruiz said. “My priority is to make myself available for the team, while trying to be among the best players.”
The 29-year-old believes voters should assess a player’s influence rather than focus solely on attacking output. He cited Spain midfielder Rodri’s Ballon d’Or success two years ago as evidence that central players can receive recognition, while noting that defenders and goalkeepers still face a difficult path in the voting.
Ruiz said the game should provide examples for young players beyond forwards, arguing that children beginning in football should also be encouraged to admire midfielders, defenders and goalkeepers.
Marseille fixture next for PSG
Ruiz will return to Paris Saint-Germain duties ahead of the Ligue 1 meeting with Marseille on September 20. The fixture offers another major domestic stage for the midfielder as PSG continue their season and Ruiz seeks to strengthen his standing among Europe’s leading players.
