Edu Joins Levski Sofia’s New Five-Man Board After Nottingham Forest Exit
Edu has taken up a new role at Levski Sofia after being appointed to the Bulgarian club’s restructured five-man board of directors, only weeks after leaving Nottingham Forest.
The former Arsenal technical and sporting director joins Claudio Pracownik, Felipe Berliner, Matthew Cherry and incumbent executive director Daniel Borimirov on the new board. Responsibilities have not yet been assigned, with a forthcoming board meeting set to choose both a chair and executive director.

Levski believe Edu’s background in sporting strategy, player identification, youth development and building football departments can strengthen their long-term structure. The club sees those areas as central to creating a competitive and sustainable operation.
Edu previously played a major part in Arsenal’s football leadership before stepping down in November 2024. His work in north London had included senior recruitment and sporting planning duties as the club rebuilt its squad.
His Forest spell proved considerably shorter and more unsettled. Appointed global head of football in July 2025, he had oversight across Evangelos Marinakis’s multi-club group, which also includes Olympiacos and Rio Ave.
Recruitment problems emerged during his time at the City Ground, while his relationship with then-manager Nuno Espirito Santo deteriorated. Nuno was among four coaches to lead Forest during the previous campaign.
Edu attended his final Forest fixture in February and was subsequently reported to have been instructed not to return to the training ground or stadium before his departure was confirmed this month.
At Levski, the immediate task is to help protect their domestic position and pursue a second successive league title. Their European campaign will continue in the Europa League following the defeat by AEK Athens in Champions League qualifying.
