Dembele Reveals PSG’s Nicknames for Khvicha Kvaratskhelia
Ousmane Dembele has described Khvicha Kvaratskhelia as one of world football’s outstanding wide players, with the Georgia international already becoming a central figure at Paris Saint-Germain after his move from Napoli.
Kvaratskhelia’s influence has earned him a number of nicknames within the PSG dressing room. Dembele said the squad uses “The Best” and “Kvaradona” for the winger, reflecting both his recent form and the reputation he built during his time in Italy.
“He is an exceptional player,” Dembele said. “For me, he is among the finest wingers and among the best players anywhere in the world. He had a remarkable season last year and is hugely important to us.”
Kvaratskhelia embraces Napoli-linked nickname
Of the labels used by his team-mates, Kvaratskhelia said he most values “Kvaradona”, a reference to Diego Maradona and the Argentine’s enduring status at Napoli.
The PSG attacker said he remains proud of his Napoli spell, but acknowledged the weight attached to comparisons with Maradona. He called the nickname both an honour and a responsibility, stressing that no player can truly be measured against one of the game’s greatest figures.
“It is a pleasure to hear it,” Kvaratskhelia said. “But it also brings pressure, because being compared with one of the greatest players in history is difficult to deal with.”
European momentum before Brest trip
PSG began the defence of their Champions League crown with a 6-1 win against Slovan Bratislava. Dembele led the attacking display with two goals and two assists, while Ferran Torres registered his first hat-trick for Les Parisiens. Fabian Ruiz was also on the scoresheet.
The French champions must now turn their attention back to Ligue 1, where their domestic campaign has opened slowly. PSG have collected only two points from their first three league fixtures and travel to Brest this weekend looking for their first win of the season.
