Dani Olmo Plans Dinamo Zagreb Return to End Playing Career and Begin Coaching
Dani Olmo’s immediate objective remains securing a regular place at Barcelona, despite continuing speculation over Bayern Munich. Yet the midfielder’s longer-term plans are clear: his representative Andy Bara says Olmo wants his playing career, and potentially his coaching journey, to come full circle at Dinamo Zagreb.
Barcelona focus remains ahead of any Bayern discussion
Olmo, 28, is concentrating on becoming an established starter for Barcelona as he works through a campaign in which guaranteed minutes have been a central issue. Bayern have been linked with the Spain international, but there has been no formal approach from the German club.
For now, the midfielder’s task is to demonstrate his importance to Barcelona’s hierarchy and claim a consistent role in the Blaugrana side. Any prospective Bundesliga move remains speculation rather than an active negotiation.
Dinamo Zagreb remains central to Olmo’s future plans
Bara said Olmo’s connection with Dinamo has remained unusually strong since his departure from Croatia. The Barcelona player came through a formative period at the Maksimir club, and that experience continues to shape how he sees the final stage of his career.
The agent said Olmo hopes to return to Dinamo to finish playing, before beginning his next chapter in football there as a coach. “He wants to end his career at Dinamo and would also like to begin as a manager there,” Bara said.
Olmo still keeps visible reminders of his time in Zagreb at home in Barcelona. Bara said the player continues to wear a Dinamo No. 7 shirt bearing his name, underlining the attachment that has survived moves to RB Leipzig and Barcelona.
- Olmo developed during his spell with Dinamo Zagreb, where Bara helped persuade him to move to Croatia.
- He subsequently left Dinamo for RB Leipzig before joining Barcelona.
- Throughout both spells, he has retained close personal and charitable links with Croatia.
- His present priority is earning a firmer place in Barcelona’s starting XI.
- His intended long-term destination is Dinamo, first as a player and later, he hopes, as a manager.
Personal bond extends beyond the pitch
Bara believes Olmo’s name remains closely associated with Dinamo among fellow players, arguing that the midfielder’s relationship with the club is stronger than that of many figures more conventionally identified with it.
The representative also disclosed that Olmo has privately donated 2 per cent of his gross yearly salary to Vukovar ever since leaving Dinamo. The contributions began during his time at RB Leipzig and have continued since his move to Barcelona.
Bara described the sums as significant given Olmo’s earnings, adding that the player had not sought public recognition for the donations. He said Olmo is deeply attached to both Zagreb and Croatia.
Bara recalls the decision that changed Olmo’s path
The agent said his relationship with Olmo has carried an emotional value beyond the financial side of representation. He recalled encouraging the young Spaniard to choose Zagreb by presenting it as a safe, attractive city with a club prepared to support his development.
Bara also referenced Zdravko Mamic, who was involved at Dinamo when Olmo arrived, as an important source of backing at the time. That early decision has left a lasting mark on Olmo’s career ambitions, even as Barcelona remains the focus of his immediate future.
- Olmo has not received an official Bayern Munich approach.
- His short-term aim is a secure starting role at Barcelona.
- He intends to return to Dinamo Zagreb to conclude his playing career.
- He also sees Dinamo as his preferred first job in management.
- He has donated 2 per cent of his gross annual salary to Vukovar since leaving Dinamo.
