Chicago Fire FC: From MLS Double Winners to Open Cup Specialists

Chicago Fire’s modern identity remains rooted in an extraordinary start. Founded on October 8, 1997 in recognition of the 1871 Great Chicago Fire, the club entered Major League Soccer the following season and immediately completed a rare domestic double, winning both MLS Cup and the U.S. Open Cup.

The Fire have since added three more U.S. Open Cups, taking their total to four. Their most recent success in that competition came in 2006, while the club also won the MLS Supporters’ Shield in 2003.
