Bournemouth Celebrate Historic Europa League Win at Real Sociedad
Bournemouth marked their first appearance in a major European competition with a landmark away victory in Spain, scoring twice inside the opening 20 minutes through Justin Kluivert and Rayan.
The result made Bournemouth the 38th English club to feature in a major European tournament. Of the nine English sides to make their European debut this century, six have now begun with a win.

Bournemouth’s manager praised an assertive opening-half display, saying it represented the identity the side want to show. “That is Bournemouth football,” he said after the final whistle.
He pointed to his team’s intent to press high, win possession in advanced areas and create opportunities. Bournemouth also had a headed chance to extend their advantage to 3-0 before the interval.
The second half required a different response as the visitors lost some of their earlier sharpness and were forced to defend their lead. The manager described the contest as demanding and intense, while stressing that the side must review its work after the break.
He also dedicated the occasion to the travelling support, calling it an outstanding result for the club and its fans. Thousands made the trip from Bournemouth for the first European night of the club’s history.
The win follows a 4-0 Carabao Cup success over Lincoln City and represents the manager’s second victory since taking charge.
Bournemouth now return to Premier League business with Liverpool and Chelsea awaiting on opposite sides of the international break. The Cherries will need to protect advantages more effectively after earlier league matches in which winning positions were allowed to slip.
After that domestic sequence, Bournemouth will stage their first European home fixture at the Vitality Stadium, with Austrian club Sturm Graz set to visit.
