AC Milan Plan Tomori and Loftus-Cheek Exits to Fund Amorim Rebuild

AC Milan are preparing for the likely departures of Fikayo Tomori and Ruben Loftus-Cheek after deciding not to renew either player’s deal beyond June 2027. The club’s plan would remove close to €10 million in combined annual gross wages, creating room in the budget for players more suited to Ruben Amorim’s preferred system.

What changed for Milan

Tomori could leave in the January transfer window, while Loftus-Cheek is expected to remain until next summer. The different timelines reflect their current positions in Amorim’s squad.

Tomori, 28, was initially excluded from the group and was not assigned a squad number before stalled summer exits led to his return. Despite making 214 appearances for Milan and playing a major part in the 2021-22 Scudetto-winning campaign, the centre-back has yet to feature at all this season under Amorim. A January sale would also spare Milan roughly six months of his salary.

Loftus-Cheek was kept after an unsettled summer window, but his role has reduced as Amorim’s options in attacking midfield have become clearer. The 30-year-old has started only once in Milan’s previous four matches.

Amorim has previously recognised the midfielder’s qualities, describing him as strong in the air and effective at connecting play, while adding that he must become more involved during matches.
